@KannonShanmugam Westminster Hall is part of that complex and, as I understand it, was the home of King’s and Queen’s Bench, making it a cradle of common law (and habeas corpus). Unless I’m wrong, of course!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news and it gives me no pleasure to do so but, unless one of the 5 judges has a change of heart, the CCA is going to shut down the TRO in the Roberson case with some dispatch. This happens pretty regularly.

Incredible news tonight from SCOTX. First, for Mr. Robeson and his tireless advocates. But it is also unprecedented, something no criminal lawyer would’ve bet on. And it feels like a huge shift in Texas state courts, maybe even a rupture. More interesting times ahead.
@RMFifthCircuit@InHouseSecret And it means the district court will have to go through issuing a new death warrant, which could open the door to more litigation and political pressure.
@dmkllr@jodyssanders It’s been the CCA’s view that these orders tread on their exclusive constitutional jurisdiction over criminal law matters (and executions). Insofar as an order intrudes on their jurisdiction, they believe they have unlimited writ power to vindicate their jurisdiction.
@rkellusturner@DougtheLawyer There was a glitch with the hand down. The case wasn’t up for about half an hour and the opinion itself took another ten or fifteen minutes to show up so a lot of folks might’ve missed it.
