Our newcomers completed station work using @SDLBACK’s School Expectations unit. While learning new vocabulary, they explored the school calendar, student handbook, and daily schedules….getting to know their new school in the process!
So grateful for the Bridges program through @CUNY. Today was one of those days where it all came together—listening, pronunciation practice, peer quizzing, and strong wrap-ups. Proud of them!
Love seeing newcomers talk through what they’re reading in English! They’re going beyond the words, drawing on images and background knowledge to truly understand.
These two girls are absolute rockstars! ⭐ They were accepted to the Westchester Youth Police Academy for their senior internship (no easy feat - super competitive!), and graduated with flying colors. Huge congrats to Britney & Karina! I'm so proud of you two! 👏🎓
@MsGallery723 None of this would have been possible without your help, Thank you Ms. Gallery I will never forget everything you did for me and for everyone.❤️🫶
Every one of these students started school in the U.S. just 2–5 yrs ago. Since then: learned English, passed classes & NYS Regents, many even completed senior internships—most while working after-school jobs. No one deserves to celebrate more. So happy they enjoyed prom! 🎓🎉
Former ELL Britney was once a newcomer in my English 9 class—today, she returned as an intern, teaching the very class she sat in just 4 years ago! She created & led a lesson on Natural Disasters, where each group designed a disaster plan with survival materials in English🌪️📚👏
One of my former ELLs arrived in the U.S. in 8th grade—now he’s a senior at @SUNYNewPaltz, graduating this month & starting a career in accounting in NYC this fall. Last week, he gave our entire ENL program a tour of his campus. We are SO proud! What an inspiration. 🌟👏 #GoLuis!
Newcomers designed newsletters highlighting various local community services—then explored the classroom to gather info on everything their new community has to offer!
Newcomers learning about community services—together! After watching videos, each group created posters to teach one another about the resources available in their new community.
Final ELL Family Workshop! Focused on College & Career Readiness, with special guests from the Mamaroneck Counseling Center and Community Resource Center. It’s so important that families know all their community has to offer!
2nd ELL family workshop was a success! Parents had many questions about clubs, activities, & ways to get more involved. A special shoutout to our student volunteers, who shared their experiences in different sports/clubs, helping families see the opportunities available at MHS.
Wednesday night, we kicked off our first ELL family workshop, helping parents navigate tech tools like @ParentSquare and the parent portal. We had a great turnout! Today, parents were already reaching out via ParentSquare—excited to see engagement growing! #FamilyEngagement#ELL
📚 After reading @SDLBACK's Her Vote, ELL students explored different real life, female leaders and compared them to characters in the book who demonstrated leadership. A great way to connect literature and history! ✨ #ELL#Leadership
📚 Today, newcomers used Hilo books to explore the difference between renting & buying! 🏡💰
✔️ Completed a Venn diagram sorting statements in English ✔️ Explored @realtordotcom to decide whether they’d rent or buy & why
Real-world learning in action! 🌍✨ #ELL#RealLifeSkills
@DiffitApp@NYSEDNews After School: Regents Prep! Focused on breaking down the text analysis (Part 3), ensuring students can approach this challenging section with the tools they need to succeed. 🛠️👊
And now I’m more than exhausted 😅🫠
@DiffitApp LUNCH → Period 4: “Free” - Packed with students seeking extra help for the English Regents. A heavy lift for students asked to take an academic Regents exam after just 3-4 years in the country @NYSEDNews
@DiffitApp@NYSEDNews Period 8: Co-taught English 📝 Prepped ELLs for Thursday’s in-class Macbeth essay. Gave resources + time to gather evidence so they feel confident and ready for the task. 💪✨
@DiffitApp@NYSEDNews *Drop 5 and 6* Period 7: Sheltered English 10 📚 Using Saddleback’s next level texts focused on historical fiction. These not only build English skills but also provide key background knowledge for US History topics they'll encounter later.
