So today is day 2 of no voice, had an observation before which I spilled flask of tea (to soothe voice) on my laptop so no tech either. Then had Open Evening! Highlight of my day? The midday supervisor giving me handmade knitted socks for helping her clean up every day ❤
Two weeks in to Acting Assistant Head post and I'm walking a very steep learning curve! Seeing the school from a different angle is fascinating. Lots of firsts, lots of learning but I'm still smiling. I miss my form and my old department far more than anticipated though.
@mrsmacteach33@engteacherabro2 Thank you! I've just had a read and it's great - I must bear these in mind. I love 1 and 5, and no 4 is a personal target for me this year.
Can't believe it's nearly the end of the holidays! 🥲 I've gone from binge watching #LoveisBlindUK to planning my first INSET segments as Assistant Head today. Gear shift! Any advice for a middle leader stepping up to SLT would be greatly appreciated!
SO important. My name is always mispronounced, and I was too shy to tell my teachers otherwise, so I feel this! Last year a child told me "You can choose what to call me, Miss" when I asked. I lectured him in owning his name! We need to empower children with this from the offset.
1/ Learning names:
- seating plan
- names written phonetically
- "I am going to call the register- if I pronounce it incorrectly let me know. It is important I get it right."
- when calling names you are unsure of, double check with student
Get into habit (use names)
@primaryteachew Mine are the same - I need to make myself a lunch everyday otherwise I'll spiral into unhealthy habits! Planning to have one night a week for myself, doing a hobby (planning to join a local choir) and exercise more regularly rather than in fits and starts.
Just a reminder as we go back, that if you're in Y6, I've got a whole folder of whole class reading lessons you can have for free. Some is entire books like Holes, some is linked to science and geography and history etc. Will also add more this year.

@HalilMrT4Real Alhamdulilah, congratulations to her and to you! My daughter got her results today too - such a relief. I know the feeling of having your heart burst with pride!
I was more anxious for my daughter receiving her GCSE results today than I was for my own, 24 yrs ago 😬. She smashed it though!
But can we talk more about capped pt scores? Hadn't heard about them till today when applying for her 6th form of choice. Had to Google it in a panic!
