"We encourage educators to seek out opportunities to engage in dialogue and unlearn biases and deficit ideologies about students, parents, and communities. We also advocate that educators move to practice the types of teaching that will benefit all learners." #EdChat
@KrisciaCabral Also I recently shared @RaceEmbrace recommendations for literature selections. Just because main characters are people of Color is not enough. We have to ask critical questions to ensure negative stereotypes are not reinforced.
@KrisciaCabral Because our student population is primarily African American and LatinX, I share stories primarily through literature. We have literature circles/discussions. I donโt and have never been a strictly textbook teacher. I teach what is culturally relevant to my students. #caedchat
@JoAnnFoxEDU Q.4 I know the danger of a single narrative or story. Iโm a Black teacher, I experience many of the same things my students do... unfair labeling, bias, etc #caedchat
@KrisciaCabral@JoAnnFoxEDU Q.3 I truly believe in the power of equity, we can help all of our students when we replace complacent attitudes and acknowledge the voices of all school community members. I advocate for my students on many platforms. I work with members of our leadership team#caedchat
@JoAnnFoxEDU@KrisciaCabral A2. I took Pan African Studies as my concentration @csunorthridge. I learned about my history for the first time beyond enslavement#caedchat
@KrisciaCabral Freshman at Compton High School. We didnโt have textbooks and enough chairs. We were on lock downs frequently. I also experienced the Riots of 92. I learned that cards were not stacked fairly as a young Black girl.
To change a system, we have to disrupt patterns of injustices. Today that disruption occurred in Palmdale with a #BlackLivesMatter protest. I was able to protest with my daughter. We are anti-racist citizens. I do appreciate @TomLackey36@stevehofbauer but more work is needed.
For those of you who are tired of reading about racism, Iโm tired of black and brown bodies being killed by it. Iโm tired of watching some white people be more upset by those who are protesting racism as opposed to the racism itself.

@AmericanAir My family and I were harassed by intoxicated passengers, your flight staff response was full of bias and microagressions. Maybe because your recognition of diversity is only dedicated to a day?#youdonโtgetit#willneverflyagainonAmericanAirlines
The upheaval of schools around the nation gives us a chance to hit the reset button on how we view education, writes @teachplusCA Fellow Jennifer Click. Schools provide meals, safety, comfort, and more that the nation now recognizes as needs. https://t.co/vQUGvlVBAd
