I also set up an account on cohost — https://t.co/w8cENxkcmD
or you can forget about me for a few months until suddenly you wonder what I'm up to, and send me an email or a text asking what's up, that's cool too
I'm not paying $8/mo for Twitter, so before my account slowly sinks below the tides, never to be heard from again, consider following me on Mastodon

@lissaharris How really rare oil in *new buildings* has become. As you pointed out, obviously there's still a huge installed base to think about going forward.
🚨Big announcement!🚨
Today we presented a report to legislators on how much new single-family homes would save under the All-Electric Building Act that's being considered in New York State 👇

Watching this video of @pde33 eulogizing Aaron Swartz, and thought I'd share for anyone who feels the need to hear him speak: https://t.co/4eNpVT13Wp Please send any other videos or content by Peter you recommend reading/watching/revisiting.
Peter was a member of what I call the Class of 1993 -- the hackers who came of age as the first web browsers created the modern Internet. We found each other in those early online spaces, and built out this new digital world together. We never lost the optimism or the work ethic.
Peter, we will continue the work you started. Your passions and convictions will not end with you. Thank you for the gift of letting us see the world through your eyes. May your memory be a blessing for us all.
Missing Peter Eckersley terribly, an outstanding human and an even better friend. I expect many of us will continue to have a small simulation of him running in our heads for the rest of our lives.
The only consolation has been to see such an amazing outpouring of love from so many others whose lives he also touched, and to get to grieve with some of them in person.
Today, I, along with a team I spent over 6 years helping to build, mentor, and lead got phased out & laid off. It’s a gut punch. But it was a gift getting to work with a group of kind, smart, and motivated Data Scientists for so long. I’m incredibly of proud of the work we did.
👓Warby Parker job alert!👓
We’re looking for someone to lead our Data Engineering team, which owns BI tools for 100+ analysts. Our goal is to grow in sophistication without loosing our startup flavor.
Know anybody who might be interested? Send ‘em this! https://t.co/HcUBpZWH9b
@BNeelon@sethrosen@CMastication@matsonj@mim_djo@teej_m Yes, they’re solving different problems. Columnar storage makes queries faster but it doesn’t make them easier for non-engineers to reason about. Thoughtful data models are an investment up front to make analysts more productive.
@AnissaEddie The thing that helped me the most was realizing that stats textbooks present as if it was one big coherent discipline, like physics, but actually there are several competing schools of thought that they lump together. It gets easier as you learn more and can tease them apart.
@bernhardsson Fun challenge. How about egg tostadas? Make or buy some hard boiled eggs, guacamole and salsa. Each day peel some eggs over the garbage, layer guac, eggs, salsa on tostada. Maybe some lettuce if you want. You can even buy peeled hard boiled eggs too!
