As I stroll on TikTok, I keep seeing parents video their children reacting to The Little Mermaid trailer. So instead of focusing so much on the negative, I thought I’d show a thread of the little black kids who are excited to see their favorite princess look like them.
#tipfortoday After the first day of school today, parents are eager to learn how the first day went for their students. Here are some alternative questions, instead of “how was your day?”, that can be used to start the conversation #Firstdayfairfax@fcpsnews

Doing PD this morning and feeling super grateful to have @lcelliottFCPS as our principal! It’s easy to feel discouraged, and we forget that there are in fact things to celebrate! Made me smile hearing about the many celebrations in addition to next steps for @WoodlawnES 🐾♥️
Delivered holiday presents after school today! The first time seeing kiddos in person since early September! Some were so excited they came running down the street to greet us! Loved every second of today. Happy winter break to all! @WoodlawnES@lcelliottFCPS
Today we played 4 In a Row Multiplcation in math small groups, and the kids loved it! Have to be strategic with the factors you multiply so you can get 4 products in a row. It was almost too intense - they were constantly trying to block each other! 😂 @WoodlawnES
The kids did such a great job working together in a team slide to brainstorm knowledge for their debate. And it got pretty heated! They were very passionate about their regions and defended their thinking with all their information! So proud! @WoodlawnES@lcelliottFCPS
This week in VA Studies we had a debate about which region is best! We randomly assigned students to a region and they worked together to prove their region was the best place to live! We used our debate to discuss how people adapt to environment based on geography! @WoodlawnES
During morning meeting, we reflected on the fact that we were a part of history this weekend! Students need to see themselves represented in leadership roles, especially our girls and girls of color, and it’s clear from the chat how they felt about our new VP @KamalaHarris ♥️
We spent some time talking about Black Lives Matter movement, immigration, where our families are from, and connecting with Kamala’s story. It helped us come to the conclusion that we are IMPORTANT and capable of ANYTHING!
