Cultural Celebration today hosted by St. Sebastian Equity Team - student-led performances and gallery promoting our school’s diversity and encouraging inclusion @TCDSB
All publicly-funded school boards have a responsibility to provide a safe, inclusive & affirming place for 2SLGBTQI+ students to learn and grow.
Raising the Pride flag is a simple, meaningful way to do that. @YCDSB's vote last night sets us all back.

This is a cowardly, shameful decision. It emboldens and validates homophobia and transphobia.
Pride flag won’t fly at York Catholic schools after board votes against the motion https://t.co/MmMt2XxWJv via @torontostar
Whole-heartedly agree with @misterdebuono on @metromorning today - such a beautiful advocate for inclusion. Ss want to fly the Pride flag and trustees have proven systemic homophobia + transphobia @YCDSB Time to intervene @Sflecce 🏳️🌈 #PrideMonth
Ahem, Toronto. If you are a Toronto politician, and you know this to be factually true but are unwilling to lead because, well, you might not get on a key committee if you do, you need to give your head a shake and ask why you are in politics in the first place. No city in the world is rebuilding expressways. They destroy cities.
Today DFCHS Student Chief Derek Monias interviewed Ryan Reynolds for media studies class. What an incredible experience! Miigwech @VancityReynolds for your support of #FirstNations students. Miigwech to CBC’s @JoleneBanning@MaryJeanCBC for partnering with project. #hope#hugs
It makes no sense to say education workers are too important to allow them to strike, but not valuable enough to pay a living wage. The hypocrisy is a policy choice.
Students from fly-in First Nations write anonymous letters to Thunder Bay.
"We just want an education. Please have sympathy when we travel from the north to come here. I dropped everything for this eduction. Let me get home safe when I'm done."

Pope Francis has apologized to the Métis, Inuit and First Nations delegation. “I am very sorry.” He will be in Canada this July where we hope to hear it again and again and again. #allmyrelations#trc58
This piece by my friend @achakos says it all. How can we ever accept an apology after generations of harm? Opinion: The Catholic Church took so much from Indigenous people. With the Vatican visit, it should start giving back - The Globe and Mail https://t.co/6wnuvJoAz5
Today, I visited Anima Mundi, part of the Vatican Museum with Indigenous “artifacts” kept in the Church’s private collection. There is an “Ontario”pipe stove from the 18th century, Haida Gwaii masks from the 18th Century, much more. I photographed them and was asked to leave.
Teachers using Culturally Responsive/Relevant Pedagogy as their philosophical & theoretical approach must also focus on raising critical consciousness of students. It’s not just about culture.
I've had two people recently tell me that a conversation with a student is not a valid or reliable form of assessment data.
You ever see a kid try to cheat on a conversation?
I mean, maybe we just have more secret ventriloquists in our schools than I realized.
Astounding? You inherit a world class education system and three years later you have eroded its support so much you don't even mention it in a throne speech. The best education systems in the world are supported by govts that show they value students, families and communities.
R/T if you will join me in keeping an eye on whoever wins the election tomorrow to make sure they implement the TRC Calls to Action and the MMIWG Calls for Justice. If they don't do it- let's make them famous for it and vote them out of office at the first opportunity.
