Senators arguing against raising the minimum wage make $174,000 a year.
The minimum wage is now $7.25 an hour, or $15,000 a year.
That’s not a living wage. Raising it to $15 will lift millions out of poverty.
Americans don’t care how it gets done, just that we do it. ASAP.
SUNY grad wkrs teach, grade papers, and conduct research - but are collapsing under unbearable school fees. We're calling on our NYS Legislature to waive mandatory fees for SUNY, CUNY grad wkrs - join us now by sending an email to your NYS Legislators! https://t.co/tnaZmkZZvJ
Simple way to make the field more inclusive: have a conversation abt bathroom procedures at the start of the day/season. So simple but unfortunately rare and makes a simple thing actually kinda dangerous as many risk dehydration to avoid bathroom need. https://t.co/4nZQbPA016
@KendraElWa I think we're lucky you're here too. I'm sorry for your early experiences, it's definitely something white Jews have a long way to go in improving.
Hey y'all. Just like after Harvey and COVID19...
The Asian groceries are well stocked even if HEB and others are running low on stuff. Do yourself a favor and try it.
You may not know what everything is, but broccoli, eggs, and beer are basically the same everywhere.
.@kroger how does this square with Portland police guarding dumpster piles of food that could feed hundreds of hungry people in the middle of a pandemic and ice storm??
@polotek It makes sense because 'real talk' challenges the systems that benefit us as white people, so we reinforce them by ostracizing people for questioning those systems and deeming it "unprofessional"/improper
This thread is illuminating. White people definitely need to challenge our own discomfort and question where it comes from if we want to create more inclusive spaces.
Oh shit. I've definitely experienced this, but I don't think I connected it in this way. If white women are tasked with keeping the peace, it explains a lot about why Black folks so often end up being "intimidating" or "aggressive" in their minds. https://t.co/Us8DR3ki9B
@KrisMacLellan@jmccarty_geo What's the common denominator? Men. Men explaining w/great confidence to people who know more than they do (most commonly women, as others have pointed out in replies). Not as concerning when it happens to men bc men haven't been traditionally harmed/excluded bc of this dynamic.
CW for this thread and the blog. I'm so saddened to hear this happened to you, @itsaishawhite. Not all men are rapists, but it's time to say #YesAllMen need to take responsibility for the society we live in that lets this foulness perpetuate.
Hey @SUNY and @binghamtonu
These mandatory fees make grad employees put off medical expenses. Making employees pay to work is exploitation!
The GSEU does NOT support this wage theft!!

Albany is known as a "livable" city regarding the cost of living, but we are always surprised how much our stipend is "unlivable" even in this livable city, and @ualbany is still interested in getting fees from our pocket. Please stop doing that!
