Alright #WyckoffInquiryMindset friends! Sadly I have to jump on a webinar with a group in Iowa. Wishing you the best in your reading and implementation of #inquiry. Remember to feel free to connect below. Thanks for being so awesome!
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A1: As an LAL teacher, I feel like I use all inquiry based teaching and learning throughout the year, in some way. Often students have the opportunity to independently or collaboratively work on skills, based on given resources.
@mr_cosman@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset I agree. Sometimes I want to skip out on the lesson that I had already planned, because the "new direction" is intriguing to them and to me, honestly!
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A4 Based on student feedback, it is clear that they think they should have more reading time. Because of this, I try to implement βReading Fridays,β which is difficult to do since there is so much to get through in the curriculum.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A4 I think it's important for students to aim for a passion, if not in what they are learning, then in how they are learning, and in the way they are demonstrating their understanding.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A4 I would love additional supports in my classroom. A few that I can think of now would be an opportunity to enhance my classroom library and additionally have a reading nook, with flexible seating, for students to explore their passions.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A3 When challenged, students are pushed to think, but also in control of their own work. I believe this will keep students engaged in the activity that they are completing when they feel autonomous and like they are capable of achieving a goal.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A3 Students must challenge themselves, but their ultimate goal should be something they can achieve in a timely manner, without getting overwhelmed. It's important to be able to manage their time appropriately too, since it is a life skill.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A2 Students have an LAL writer's notebook where they can share their thoughts and mind map their ideas, and it keeps everything together so they can reflect upon what they previously wrote and learned and add ideas to already existing ideas.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A2 I think itβs important to set this up in the beginning of the year. Based on the reading of chapter two, it is evident that students have to gradually learn the process of free inquiry, in order to have the mindset to work independently
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A2 I think students will need to feel confident in doing this, before it really begins to have a positive impact on their learning.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A2 With a 10 minute mini lesson, class begins with structured inquiry, where students learn a skill and collaboratively participate in discussion and learning. After the mini lesson, students begin to have more free reign of their learning experience.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A1 Free Inquiry: I created a website for independent reading projects, where students can choose from 8 different methods of demonstrating their understanding of the last book they read, encouraging them to chose the option they feel most passionate about.
@mrslacasse#wyckoffinquirymindset A1 Guided Inquiry: I have encouraged students to use the period to write a short story of their own. In doing this, I gave them no guidelines as to what the story story had to be about; however; I had previously taught them what elements go into narratives.
