Brighton Post Troopers Arrest Two Suspects Following Vehicle Break-In at Automobile Dealership
Brighton Township, Livingston County — On June 3, 2026, at approximately 2:25 a.m., troopers from the Brighton Post were dispatched to Champion Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Brighton dealership for a report of suspicious individuals looking into vehicles on the dealership lot. While troopers were enroute, Livingston County Dispatch advised troopers that one of the suspects had broken into a vehicle.
Upon arrival, troopers observed two males wearing ski masks fleeing from marked patrol vehicles. With assistance from the Brighton Police Department, both suspects were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old male from Inkster and a 23-year-old male from Detroit.
With assistance from K9 Wood, troopers conducted an article search of the area for any items the suspects may have thrown. During the search, troopers recovered two center-punch tools commonly used to break vehicle windows, two blank key fobs, and an automobile scanner/programmer, which can be used to program key fobs.
The 17-year-old was released to his mother, pending review and authorization of charges by the prosecutor's office. The 23-year-old was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the incident and was then lodged at the Livingston County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing. The incident will be submitted to the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office for review of potential criminal charges.

The MSP Jackson Post had a furry visitor stop by this morning!
It appears this little one heard about the post cookout scheduled for this afternoon and decided to stick around in hopes of grabbing a snack. The visit was brief, and our young friend soon scampered off with its mom.

MSP Lansing Post Troopers Investigate Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash
Windsor Township, Eaton County — On June 2, 2026, at approximately 10:40 p.m., troopers from the Lansing Post responded to the area of Bishop Highway near Creyts Road for a two-vehicle crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2013 Ford Econoline van, driven by an 81-year-old male from Dimondale, was traveling westbound on Bishop Highway when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro driven by a 41-year-old male from Lansing.
The driver of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene. An 80-year-old passenger in the van, also from Dimondale, and the driver of the Camaro sustained serious injuries and were transported to University of Michigan Health-Sparrow in Lansing for treatment.
At this time, it is unknown whether alcohol, drugs, or a medical emergency were factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

NEWS RELEASE: Suspect Arraigned in Attempted Abduction of Child
May 31, 2026
Brighton Township, Livingston County — Today, May 31, 2026, Ryan Josue Rojas, 20, of Herriman, Utah, was arraigned in the 53rd District Court in connection with the attempted abduction of an 8-year-old girl that occurred on May 27, 2026.
Rojas was charged with one count of Accosting a Minor for Immoral Purposes. His bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety. Conditions of his bond include wearing a GPS tether and having no contact with the victim or any person under the age of 18. His next court hearing is expected within the next 21 days; however, a date has not yet been scheduled.
The Michigan State Police would like to thank the Auburn Hills Police Department for its assistance in apprehending the suspect.

News Release: Brighton Post Troopers Investigating Attempted Abduction of Child
Brighton Township, Livingston County — On Wednesday, May 27, at approximately 7 p.m., troopers from the Brighton Post responded to the area of Rosemary Ln in Brighton Township for a report of an attempted child abduction.
The complainant reported that his 8-year-old daughter was riding her bicycle on Rosemary Ln when she was approached by a subject who appeared to be a traveling salesman going door to door.
The subject asked the girl to come into the woods, where he would give her “a surprise.” The suspect then attempted to lure the girl and her bicycle into the wooded area before being confronted by the girl’s father, who questioned him about what he was doing. The suspect then fled the area on a Segway-type vehicle.
Troopers arrived on scene and searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect, who was last seen near Old US-23 and Alger Dr in Brighton Township.
The suspect is described as possibly a white or Hispanic male, last seen wearing blue shorts, a black polo shirt, and a light green ball cap. He was also wearing an ID badge for a pest control company.
This remains an ongoing investigation. Troopers and detectives will continue canvassing the area for surveillance footage and contacting nearby residents. Anyone with information regarding the suspect or who may have observed suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact the MSP Brighton Post at 810-227-1051.
Monroe Post Troopers Investigate Freeway Shooting

Milan Township, Monroe County: On Saturday, May 30, 2026, at approximately 7:42pm, Monroe Post troopers responded to a possible freeway shooting at N/B US-23 and Mile Marker 20.
Monroe County Central Dispatch received a call from the victim, a 53-year-old male from Clinton Township, Mi. who was in a 2012 Hyundai with five other members of his family. The caller advised he was involved in a road rage incident, when the suspect presented a pistol from his semi-truck and began firing it in their direction while following them.
Troopers arrived on scene and conducted an on-scene investigation. A 33-year-old male from Clinton Township, who was driving a 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck was taken into custody and lodged at the Monroe County Jail. This incident remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police. There is no danger to the public, and the freeway has been reopened.
The Michigan State Police were assisted by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, Village of Dundee Police Department, and Monroe Central Dispatch.

MICHIGAN STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH

Grass Lake Township, Jackson County, Michigan — On May 30, 2026, at approximately 4:20 a.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Jackson Post responded to an iPhone crash detection alert near the intersection of Mount Hope Road and Katz Road in Grass Lake Township.
Upon arrival, troopers located a serious single-vehicle crash involving one occupant. Preliminary investigation indicates a 22-year-old Grass Lake man was driving a white sedan northbound on Mount Hope Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and struck multiple trees.
The driver was transported to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time.
The Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by the Grass Lake Fire Department and Jackson Community Ambulance.
The Michigan State Police is pleased to announce the promotion of Inspector Neil Donahue to captain and commander of the MSP Second District, effective May 24, 2026.
As commander of the Second District, Captain Donahue is responsible for all Michigan State Police uniformed and investigative personnel assigned to five MSP worksites throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, as well as the City of Detroit. These include the Metro North and Metro South Posts, the Special Investigation Section, the Metropolitan Narcotics Enforcement Team (MNET), the County of Macomb Enforcement Team (COMET), the Gaming Section, and the District Support Section.
Prior to his promotion, Captain Donahue served as assistant commander of the Second District. Throughout his career, he has also held leadership roles as section commander of COMET, acting section commander of the Flint Area Narcotics Group (FANG), and assistant commander of the Special Investigation Section. Captain Donahue has additionally served as a detective sergeant with the Special Investigation Section and COMET, and as a trooper at the Sandusky, Lapeer, Metro, and Flint posts. He also served as a detective trooper with COMET.
Captain Donahue enlisted with the department in 2004 as a member of the 120th Trooper Recruit School. Prior to joining the Michigan State Police, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo and served in the United States Army as an Airborne Infantry Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, as well as the 2nd Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea.
Captain Donahue is honored to serve in this position and remains committed to serving not only the citizens of the Second District, but also the residents of the entire great state of Michigan.
Today, we celebrate F/Lt. Mike Shaw of the Communications and Outreach Division who is retiring after 31 years of service!
For the past 13 years, F/Lieutenant Shaw served as the Public Information Officer for the MSP Second District and ran the @mspmetrodet account.

UPDATE: The suspect in the attempted abduction of an 8 year old girl is expected to be arraigned sometime this weekend. Investigators are completing their investigation, and will compile the information into a complaint for the prosecutor to review. The suspect, a 21 year old from Utah, is currently lodged at the Livingston County Jail awaiting arraignment.
UPDATE: The suspect in the attempted abduction of the eight-year-old girl has been located and is in custody. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
This week probationary troopers from the 150th Trooper Recruit School attended the First District Meet and Greet. The troopers met with District Commander, Capt. Barry Schrader and Assistant District Commander, Insp. Mike Sura, along with other sections of the district, about district goals, expectations, and what is available to them to help them succeed.
