@Catters61 The starter at Suffolk Downs told me several years ago the reason US starters began starting races from ground level and not up on a stand was because then they could see all the horses legs. All four legs on the ground and they're good to let them go.

@HorseyGort Not to toot my own horn, but I was responsible for Stag going to the Masscap. I collared his trainer at the Derby Awards lunch in 97 and told him it would be a good race for Stag. He'd never heard of Suffolk, but he went, and Chris and I ended up following Stag around the world!
Calling all racing historians: Does anyone have any information about the origins of the Champion Hurdle trophy, ie., where it was made, who made it? Chris is working on a book on the centenary of the Champion Hurdle and would like to include something about its history.
