The “Idea Jar” inspired us to create our own jar & use it to collaborate on a story using all of our ideas! Then we made a class book illustrating the story showing our comprehension skills! It was wonderful to see friends working together & building off of others ideas! 📚 ✏️
We tried adding food colouring to our bubbles to see what would happen when we caught them on paper! To our surprise it made splatter dots everywhere! It was a great inquiry project that helped us work on our spacial awareness & communication so we didn’t bump into our friends 🫧
Tuff tray exploration of different habitats in Grade 1 this week! How are these two habitats the same? How are they different? What do the animals need to survive? It has been interesting to see the play that has come out of this invitation.
As our grade 1 friends explore Canadian Money in math class many discussions have lead us back to all different kinds of markets. So we decided to open our own! Friends have begun making jewelry, creating art, and taking on the roles of both buyer and seller!
An exploration into OAP’s Pizzeria has been a slice🍕 ! Our friends have enjoyed taking on the roles of different jobs, inquiring about what toppings their friends like on pizza and helping to create different toppings for play!We have even been learning about fractions!
As we continue the exploration of our preschoolers “worlds” we brought in pictures of our pets or favourite stuffies as we explored our Vet Clinic dramatic play area
I’m preparation for tomorrows Holiday Open House and concert our PreK friends have been so excited to display their holiday traditions and favourite moments of the holidays with their families!
“Our world”bulletin board has transformed into a place to display their adventures! Our PreK friends have enjoyed our dramatic play travel centre! They have taken turns sharing in front of the class all about the adventures they’ve been on. Where will they go next? ✈️
I introduced my Grade 1 friends to the game Deserted Island using our learned letter sounds from the week, counting patterns and even sorting into categories. Our friends have taken the lead & started finding their own spelling patterns to challenge their friends!
Hoping the weather stays chilly enough that our water balloon fort stays standing ❄️ 💦 This brought on so many conversations about 3D shapes, colour mixing, gross motor, structure building and the mpemba effect.
Today we read “Pyjama Day” by Robert Munsch. Temperatures reached -40C in Saint John NB today so we wore our pj’s, brought in stuffies and made chocolate chip pancakes! 🥞 We used our math skills to measure and our writing skills to add the recipe to our cook books!
Continuing our Robert Munsch author study we read “Makeup Mess”. We paired up&counted our bundles of Munsch Money to make some purchases at the classroom store. Some chose to to divide their money while others put it all together. During play they created a cash register & sign
Our Author Study of Robert Munsch has began to forge an attachment to books&connections to the their lives. Todays extension to “Mmm Cookies” had us following recipes, mixing playdough&creating our own ‘cookies”! We later wrote out the recipes for our ongoing recipe books! 🍪
Our PreKfriends have taken turns on being the roles of Pilot, Co-Pilot, Security Guard and Flight Attendant. They have also had a go at being a Travel Agent; setting up trips for everyone! “I know there can be 2 flight attendants because I’ve been on a plane and I saw 2�� - B 👦
After winter break our PreKfriends came back excited to share that many had travelled or went on vacation. Our dramatic play center transformed into an airport in no time! Friends have been learning through sharing lived experiences and taking that right into their play!
Inspired by @McLennan1977’s books, we have created our own class book of friends finding math in our everyday adventures! I’ve done this for a few years now but these PreK friends have taken on the task of filling our book by the end of the year- in all seasons and invitations!
