I just facilitated my own IEP meeting! I am the first-ever student from my high school to do so. It felt amazing, but I am flat exhausted.
Please clap.

Almost every best practice in education takes more time than traditional practices.
More time to plan, more time to differentiate, and more time to grade.
If we want educators to be able to do these practices effectively, we need to give educators more time to do them.
Told my scholars I might get locked out from virtual school tomorrow by CPS because I refuse to go into the building. 5 minutes later, I called on one of them and she didn’t respond.
Me: “Hey, what you up to?”
4th grader: “I’m emailing the mayor.”
😭😭❤️
I no longer have patience for books and events that are supposed to be for everyone, but are clearly written, designed for, and framed for White people. Just name it and say that your work caters to White people and we're good.
Students can’t “fall behind” during COVID-19
Because we are the ones who make the standards
Standards are social constructs
Completely arbitrary benchmarks
We are the educators
We can re-write the standards
Working in the Middle East is helping me grow not only as an educator but as a citizen of the world. I was beyond excited to dress in traditional Kuwaiti clothing for our national day celebration.
@tracyrenee70 I don’t remember the first person to tell me that but it was always something I felt. I do remember my cousin saying “you should be something better like an engineer” when I told him my major.
One of the best parts about my new position is I have the flexibility to create moments with my students that are not just about reading and writing. Bts of our “family meal” in the life skills lab.
Parent,”I would like to come read to the class, but I can’t read English.” Me, “well, please come read in your language.” Parent, “really? “ Me, “of course!” And,she did and it was amazing!!Thank you to this mom for reading to us!📚 You made your daughter proud! 😊 #cridgepride
