Interesting timing of this announcement - when #XiJinping just praised #Macau's patriotic & nationalist education as one of its keys to successful implementation of #OneCountryTwoSystems during his speech in Macau. It's widely deemed as rebuke & diagnosis on Hong Kong's unrest.
#Breaking#HongKong: Education Bureau announced that 80 teachers were arrested since #HongKongProtests broke out in June. Those arrested - though yet convicted - should be suspended from their duties or even deregistered, Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung told in a presser.
#THREAD HK Education Minister said the authority will adopt harsher measures on teachers arrested and complained in protest-related incidents to “correct mistakes”.
Around 80 teachers were arrested in #HKProtests and 123 complaints on teachers were filed to the Buro.
@Billbrowder By freezing legal aid, police deprived freedom fighters of their basic right to a fair trial.
It’s a clear violation of human rights, an alarming precedent for dissent, as well as a threat for foreign investors in Hong Kong.
We hope more countries would consider Magnitsky Act!
Hong Kong police freeze the assets of an NGO set up to support legal fees of persecuted demonstrators. The US, Canada, the U.K. (and eventually the EU) should freeze the assets of the Hong Kong police generals who are persecuting demonstrators through the Global Magnitsky Act.
@SenRickScott@HSBC Thank you Senator Scott!
We hope the S.2758 Hong Kong Be Water Act you co-sponsored can be passed soon!
Police are making up excuses to freeze assets & deprive rights. This is no longer the international financial centre we used to know.
It’s shameful to see companies like @HSBC cower in fear. They should be standing up for the human rights of the people of #HongKong.
Communist China wants to silence those fighting for human rights. Companies like HSBC are helping them.
HK govt full-page ad in The Australian today. Easy to laugh at it, e.g. “the economy has taken a dip”. Freedoms listed are under pressure. But fact that HK govt is emphasizing freedoms, in stark contrast to mainland, shows how hard integration will be (without destroying HK)
@benedictrogers@hk_watch Kid peppersprayed in Kowloon Bay.
Police pointed gun inside Shatin New Town Plaza.
Indiscriminate use of force.... Repeatedly
