You can be free from addiction.

The freedom to get out will not come from personal strength. You can't simply "figure it out." Your problem is not the drugs and alcohol.

Your problem is idolatry. Addiction is fundamentally an issue of false worship.

You were created in God's image, to find pleasure and ultimate satisfaction in Him. Yet, you substitute that eternal joy for fake pleasures that can never satisfy.

You would rather love the lie that we can find comfort, security, happiness, peace and pleasure in created things rather than the Creator.

There are physical consequences to drug and alcohol addiction that may need to be addressed.

Detoxification may be necessary, but it will not heal or save you from addiction. What's really broken is your relationship with God.

The truth is not that you have the disease of alcoholism and will always be an addict no matter what you do. The truth is that you need peace with God to fight, and put to death this sin that's destroying you and others.

You cannot run to the pills, needles and bottles to wash away your guilt and forget your Maker and Judge.

The freedom to get clean will not come from you. If you're an addict, you know this. You are a slave to this and cannot hope to set yourself free.

You are falling down at the throne of another god.

The glory and wonder of God's Good News is that he loves the lost, rebellious and broken sinners that have gone after idols.

The only God took on flesh and became a man. He was not like you. He was not a slave and a failure. He was righteous and holy and took the death penalty that we deserve in the place of his people.

He took what we should have gotten for our rebellion, and then conquered that death by rising from the grave. He is ascended and seated on his throne.

This is the call: turn away from your sin and idolatry. Turn from your own righteousness and attempt to fix yourself up so that he will accept you one day. You'll never make it.

The Gospel is a gift of his grace through faith in Jesus and what he has accomplished. Repent, and have a change of mind. Turn to Christ and place your total trust in him to save you.

Come, die and be joined to him in his death and resurrection. Lose yourself and your false worship. No more lying, no more hiding, no more trying to change yourself through your own power.

Be reconciled to God through faith in Jesus. He is the Way, Truth and the Life. Turn and worship the true God as a child.

This is the freedom you need. If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
