Maya, she/her, queer. If I'm unreachable, I probably #amreading or #amwriting. Favorite genre: Fantasy. Favorite types of fantasy: Slice-of-life, Hopepunk.
Me, intentionally trying to write a dramatic, angsty scene: Accidentally hits some comedy gold.
Me, intentionally trying to write humor: Hits the character where it hurts and makes herself sob.
This writing thing is kinda counterintuitive, isn't it?
Y'all gotta quit lying to young writers and telling them they need to write everyday. Nah, y'all need to go watch a movie. Listen to folklore. Talk to your friends. That's what's going to make the work sing. I think we forget that being a human is central to being an artist too.
@sethpuertoluna First the Farseer trilogy (starts with Assassin's Apprentice), then you make a detour to read the Liveship one, then it's Tawny Man trilogy, then another detour to Rainwild, and then Fitz and the Fool.
There's also Soldier's Son trilogy, but it's 100% its own separate thing.
Me, once upon a time: My crappy laptop won't let me run this cool new game everyone's playing. Woe is me.
Me, now: My crappy laptop won't let me run this game. Thank you laptop. I'll have more time for writing and other useful things.
Am I growing up or growing boring? 😂
A thread of games that
A) will do dungeon crawling and overland exploration and give you that D&D experience
B) Don't involve reading 500 pages of rules (or even 50 pages in most cases)
C) are free
That feeling when you listen to a short story on Podcastle and the magic system there is eerily similar to the one you've been painstakingly creating for your novel. 🙄 Telling myself it's a "great minds think alike" situation, not an "I can't ever create anything original" one.
I just finished a short story, and now I'm metaphorically slapping my wrists to keep myself from beginning to fix it immediately. It can be so much better!
But I know I should let it rest a bit first, so I can see the good parts and not just the problems when I revise.
I'm about to pass out from tiredness, but before I do, my sophomore novel PERFECT ON PAPER is out today!
I'm so excited for everyone to get their hands on my enemies to lovers bi rom-com ❤️❤️❤️

I just accidentally came up with the most tragically doomed pairing ever, and now I need to write their story to figure out a way for them to earn their happy ending.
@andrewtekken So one of them is a god who has to occasionally come live among mortals for "maintaining world order" reasons, and the other is a human who is destined to become a vessel for that god the next time he shows up among mortals (and the moment that happens, the human ceases to exist)
