My two NIH cancer research grants were terminated today. One involving breast cancer prevention is an “outstanding investigator award” and had received a perfect score by reviewers. How does ending lifesaving cancer research make Americans healthier? @harvardmed@aacr

@MarcosArrut As a scientist, i am an optimist. I earned a PhD in aging biology and i would say let’s not mislead people. We don’t have compelling evidence yet to call aging is a disease. The current state of aging literature has no indication that we can cure aging and make humans immortal.

Great day for CRI research: @SJMorrison_ received $4.36M to study neural regulation of childhood cancers & @RJDLab received $2.6M for our Metabolomics core toward advanced methodologies in #cancer#metabolism. #relentlessdiscovery@CPRITTexas
Congrats as well to @RJDLab and @thomaspmathews for a huge grant to continue to build the outstanding metabolomics facility in @CRI_UTSW. Ralph has more mass spectrometers than anyone I know!
Contrary to how tumors operate while still in the kidney, metastatic kidney cancers rely heavily on mitochondrial metabolism, according to new research from HHMI Investigator Ralph DeBerardinis (@RJDLab) & colleagues @CRI_UTSW.

Thank you to @ASH_hematology for recognizing my lab's work on hematopoietic stem cells with the E. Donnell Thomas Lecture and Prize. This award recognizes the work of many lab members over 25 years, many of whom now run their own labs. Lab party at ASH!!
