Today, we celebrate Africa Day, a moment to reflect on our diversity, our shared history and the future we are building together.
As our Group President and CEO, Ralph Mupita, reminds us:
“Our success is irrevocably tied to the progress of the nations we serve.”
We know that progress across Africa does not look the same everywhere. It is shaped by local realities, communities, and ambitions, market by market.
We invite you to share your voice here <https://t.co/uZeoQ136JO> about what Africa means to you. You can also upload a photo to generate a personalised Africa Day image to share

Connectivity is transforming Africa, powering trade, financial inclusion, and opportunity at scale.
But the digital divide remains.
We continue to build inclusive, future-ready networks that don’t just connect people but empower them to thrive.

MTN was well represented at @africaceoforum 2026. One message stood out: Africa’s next era will be built through collaboration and scale, not fragmentation.
Across the week, we connected with leaders from business, government, and the development ecosystem to explore practical enablers of transformation, including shared digital infrastructure, co-investment models, and regulatory coherence that can accelerate inclusion at pace.
We also participated in the Continental Summit of the Forward Africa Leaders Symposium Continental Summit joining leaders, innovators, and changemakers from across the continent to shape conversations around Africa’s digital future, purposeful collaboration, and transformative impact.
We’re grateful to all partners and stakeholders for the meaningful dialogue and we look forward to turning these conversations into progress that delivers shared value for Africa.

🌍 How do you build a brand on a continent fragmented into 54 markets, split between rural and urban consumers, and shifting faster than any other region in the world? From the main stage of the Africa CEO Forum Annual Summit in Kigali, @etwumasante, Senior Vice President at @MTNGroup, laid out the operator's playbook.
🎯 For MTN, branding starts with solving national problems. The business only exists where licences are granted, so contribution to each country's digital economy agenda and to domestic revenue mobilisation comes first. Add to that the distribution ecosystem itself, where retailers generate some of the highest employment numbers in MTN's markets, and the brand becomes a social asset before it is a commercial one.
💡 The execution layer is where the model gets interesting. MTN has built airtime tokenisation down to one Ghanaian pesewa of credit, made possible because mobile money platforms allow micro-transactions that cash never could. It is sachet pricing for connectivity. The same affordability logic that unlocked FMCG mass markets is now reshaping telecom and financial services across the continent.
📊 On the rural-urban split, the answer is data. MTN tracks consumer migration in real time, follows customers as they move toward city fringes, and adjusts propositions accordingly. Urban core, peri-urban and rural now receive distinct value propositions, with price discrimination built on behavioural analytics rather than guesswork.
