Update: In Keynotes “Spacing” section, you can set their version of leading to “exactly” and it will be consistent. What you cannot do is mix n match that within the same text-box. (i.e. you cannot have a text style for quotes & another for body text in the same text box)

Someone just open-sourced a JS library that measures text without ever touching the DOM.

It's called Pretext. It skips getBoundingClientRect entirely, uses canvas as ground truth, and lays out paragraphs in 0.09ms instead of triggering browser reflow.
