Official Launch of the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme (FISP) for the Northwest Region

In our continuous efforts to strengthen food security and drive economic development, today, I had the honour of officially flagging off the distribution of 100,800 bags of fertilizer to 25,200 verified smallholder farmers across the North-West under the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme (FISP). For Katsina State, 20,160 bags will be distributed to 5,040 genuine farmers.

This intervention, championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), is a significant milestone in our collective efforts to enhance agricultural productivity, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and achieve sustainable food security.

I made it unequivocally clear that there will be zero tolerance for diversion, manipulation, or any form of abuse in the distribution process. Every bag of fertilizer is meant for the verified farmers it was intended to reach. To this end, strict monitoring, verification, and tracking mechanisms have been put in place to guarantee transparency, accountability, and effective delivery.

Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy, while the North-West continues to serve as Nigeria’s agricultural hub. Beyond the provision of farm inputs, we must sustain investments in mechanization, irrigation, improved seedlings, rural infrastructure, and market-oriented policies that will empower our farmers to increase productivity and improve their incomes.

In Katsina State, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting agriculture through the annual distribution of over 400,000 bags of subsidized fertilizer, alongside the provision of solar-powered irrigation pumps, power tillers, and other modern agricultural equipment aimed at transforming the sector and improving the livelihoods of our people.

I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s agricultural transformation. I also commend the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, under the leadership of my good friends, Senator Abubakar Kyari, @SenatorAKyari and Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi; the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), ably led by our illustrious son, Alhaji Mohammed Abu Ibrahim; our development partners; and all stakeholders whose collaboration has made this important intervention possible.

We will continue to build a resilient agricultural sector that guarantees food security, creates jobs, stimulates economic growth, and delivers lasting prosperity for our people.

Yesterday, I had the honour of declaring open the 1st Annual Workshop and General Meeting of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Katsina State Chapter, themed “Strengthening the Role of Nutritionists and Dieticians in the Healthcare System in Katsina State.”

Nutrition is not just a health issue; it is a foundation for human development, educational success, economic productivity, and the overall prosperity of our society. A healthy and well-nourished population is essential for building a stronger and more resilient Katsina State.

This is why our administration has committed over N3 billion to nutrition-focused interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing of women, children, and vulnerable groups across the state. We have also established and funded the State Committee on Nutrition, supported the ANRIN Project 2.0, and expanded access to life-saving nutrition services through additional therapeutic and stabilization centres.

Beyond nutrition, we have continued to invest heavily in healthcare infrastructure, upgrading and revitalizing 268 Primary Healthcare Centres across Katsina State, recruiting healthcare professionals, improving healthcare worker welfare, and strengthening our hospitals and medical institutions.

I commend the Nutrition Society of Nigeria, development partners, healthcare professionals, traditional institutions, and all stakeholders working tirelessly to address malnutrition and improve health outcomes in our communities.

As people, we must continue to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen nutrition education, and ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.
