Veteran lawyer Dr John Khaminwa brings the energy to the dance floor as he celebrates his milestone 90th birthday. At 90, he is proving that age is truly just a number!
Happy 90th BIRTHDAY Dr. John Khaminwa
Few lawyers can light a candle to you. Few Kenyans have your courage. You have taken on causes that no other lawyer will. You have put the Rule of Law above monetary gain.
Many years ago when I was a rookie lawyer, our paths crossed for the first time. At the height of Presidential Daniel Arap Moi suppression of political dissent, 6 Kikuyus were arrested & charged with stealing guns from Ndeiya Chiefs Camp in Limuru to overthrow Moi! These were simple & poor villagers that were picked to be sacrificed by the system to deter opposition to Moi! The Ndeiya 6 instructed you & me to represent them. Despite State pressure, the Court was courageous & acquitted them. Our mutual respect remained from then upto now.
The system may not reward you now. The Law Society hasn’t made sure you are made Senior Counsel. Typical of Kenya, when you are gone, the Country will even lower its FLAG for you. The legal fraternity that hasn’t given you your rightful place in the pantheon of our greatest legal minds will fall over each other praising you.
As for me, I give you my flowers now. I became a lawyer partly because I used to read in newspapers about you when I was in primary school. You stand out ALONE as a lawyer who gave his Ability, Talent, Time & Courage without asking to be paid! You could have been a Billionaire. You chose Justice instead.
The Bible says, he who is given much, much is expected. You gave us all.
HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY MY FRIEND!
Hello Dr. Kingori, @Dr_Kingori,
Perhaps you should consider sitting down with Mzee Khaminwa for a long form podcast.
To discuss with him 6 things.
1. Why, of all the options he had under the sun, he chose to become a lawyer.
2. His experience practising law in Kenya under both constitutions.
3. Where Kenya has come from jurisprudentially, politically, socially and economically.
4. Where he sees Kenya heading, jurisprudentially, politically, socially and economically.
5. The dangers he sees ahead of our glorious Kenya that the younger generation should be cautious about and watch out for.
6. And, why our marriages are not working today. And the cure for it.
Make it happen.
Happy 90th birthday, Senior Wakili Khaminwa.
