Oh please, spare us the nonsense!

Thousands of Maldivians have been awarded housing by one Gov only to have it cancelled or taken away by the next.

Hiyaa flats were awarded and later taken away under the MDP Gov. More than 1,000 one-bedroom flats awarded under Yameen’s Gov were cancelled under Ibu’s government. FDC flats awarded to people have been cancelled under this government. The list goes on.

We are not talking about a dozen people. We are not talking about a hundred people. We are talking about several thousand Maldivians who, at some point, were officially awarded housing on paper but never received it.

So if the Gov is now going to hide behind the word “justice” to justify giving housing to selected individuals, then PUBLISH a regulation establishing how this “justice” will be delivered to EVERYONE who was previously awarded housing but never received it.

You don't get to pick and choose a handful of people from a pool of thousands, make transactions in their favour, and then, when questioned, say: “We were giving them justice.”

And there are even more serious questions in this particular case,

How was land allocated for the original Binveriyaa Scheme given to someone who apparently was’t included in HM plots?

And how did this person receive land from Gulhifalhu if, according to the government's own explanation, there was already land registered under his name?

Under the existing rules, having land allocated under your name on paper matters ( whether or not you have physically received the land). For example, people who had already been allocated land from Giraavarufalhu on paper were not eligible to apply for RasMale.

So if this gentleman already had land allocated under his name on paper, as the government itself claims, how was he eligible for another allocation?

This is precisely why clear, established and publicly available regulations are NECESSARY.

Without regulations, “justice” becomes whatever a minister decides it means on a particular day, for a particular person.

That isn't justice. That's discretion without accountability.

We only know about this case because @HKurusee raised it publicly on X.

The bigger question is how much land originally allocated for the Binveriyaa Scheme has already been reassigned to other individuals under this so-called “justice” ( selective ) and to whom?

Publish the rules. Publish the allocations. Apply the same standard to everyone.
Justice requires rules. Selective exceptions are not justice.

I just saw Gov justifying that tourism establishments “belong to people/state” and that’s why state has a right to squeeze every possible dollar from them. I can at least understand the principle.

My problem is that this sudden concern for “what belongs to the people” appears to be extremely selective.

When a resort reportedly worth over $100 million was to be sold to the Turkish friend for around $2 million, suddenly nobody in Gov remembers that it “belongs to the people.”

When the Gov introduced township laws and gives extraordinary incentives and concessions to a billion-dollar project, privileges even local Maldivian businesses do not enjoy, apparently those state resources no longer “belong to the people.”

When public money is lost through corruption and the Gov chooses not to investigate, prosecute or recover it, again, the idea that “this belongs to the people” mysteriously disappears.

Only when the Gov wants to justify taking something suddenly everything belongs to the people.

“It belongs to the people” is a perfectly respectable principle, but only if it is actually a principle.

A principle applies even when it is inconvenient.

If it appears only when you need an excuse to take something from someone, while disappearing when giving away public assets, granting concessions or ignoring lost public money, then it is not a principle.

It is a justification of convenience.

The issue is not “tourism refusing to help” The issue is Muizzu!!

- billions wasted on Ras Malé.
- government expenditure at record highs
- millions on drones
- over MVR 400 million for council elections
- SOEs packed with political staff
- waste everywhere

And then the solution is to squeeze tourism and the one industry actually earning dollars???

Maldives does not have a dollar problem because resort workers are paid in USD or MACL staff are paid partly in USD

Maldives has a dollar problem because this government spends like there is no tomorrow, borrows like there is no consequence, and wastes money like corruption is the strongest industry in the country!!

Before forcing 40% from tourism, maybe stop eating 100% of public money!!

What frustrates me isn’t just this situation—it’s how we’ve made it seem normal. We carry on like it’s acceptable, and that’s why those in charge keep getting away with poor planning. 🤷🏼‍♂️

In a few months, when this road is finished, the government and its supporters will be praising it left, right, and centre. Meanwhile, no one will be talking about the poor planning, the disruption, or the inconvenience people had to endure. We’ll just move on. 🤦🏽‍♂️

IMO , the authorities chose a version of events that avoided highlighting their failures during a tragedy that had the world’s attention. If that’s not the case, they should transparently explain why the death certificate states he was “rescued”… 🤷🏼‍♂️

When I first raised questions about this case because of the inconsistencies and unanswered issues, I was accused of politicizing someone's death.

Months later, Mahdhee's brother is still searching for justice. He is now appealing not only to the Maldivian public, but even to Italians, for help in uncovering the truth about his brother's death.

Think about that for a moment.

A man who died while serving his country. A man who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Yet today, it is his family that is left begging for answers and pleading for justice.

What kind of country allows the family of a fallen serviceman to be put in that position?

The government promoted him, presented awards, and held a grand ceremony in his honor. Yet they continue to withhold key information. Now we learn they haven't even corrected his death certificate.

What was all the fanfare for? To create the appearance of caring?

As I wrote before:

"Honoring him with words alone will not do justice to his sacrifice. The most important thing now is to thoroughly investigate what led to this tragedy, learn every possible lesson from it, and ensure it never happens again. We cannot afford to lose another life the same way."

Months later his family is still fighting for the truth.

A country is like a company owned by its people, YOU all.

Every citizen is a shareholder. Every public asset and every tax dollar belongs to YOU.
The government is simply the management team YOU appoint to run the company on YOUR behalf.

If YOU ( shareholders ) stop paying attention, management can waste money, reward friends, dispose of valuable assets, and then claim the company can't afford the things its YOU ( owners) actually need. Eventually, the YOUR company heads towards bankruptcy.

That's the lesson behind accountability.

As one ex, the Gov spending on vehicle purchases from 2019–2025 totalled 783 million, an average of over 100 million a year. To give you a comparison, we need less than 200 million to install 4KW solar units in every single household in Addu.

Whether you think this spending in vehicles is justified or not, remember this, it is your money. It was spent by the management you elected to act on your behalf.

The moment citizens truly see themselves as the owners of the country, not just voters, they begin asking the questions every responsible shareholder should ask: Why was this money spent? Was it necessary? Did it deliver value?
