With vaccinations underway, the risks posed by Covid have changed. Yet the default of National Level 5 Lockdown remains. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing: our strategy allows for a more nuanced reopening, across levels and across the country. So let’s use it.
Very regrettably, continued vaccine supply delays are likely, going on our experience to date. To protect ourselves against more delays, further advance agreements for new vaccines are needed, ahead of their approval. Either within the EU framework, or alongside it.
Other EU countries are securing additional vaccines independently, and the EU says we are free to do so. So let’s, as a start, ask Germany & France for the 2m+ AZ vaccines sitting in their hospitals unused. They may say no, and that’s ok, but let’s ask.
💶 Cash seized by the Gardaí is on the rise — from €7.44m in 2019 to over €16m in 2020.
@nealerichmond & @kenegan30 are calling for seized cash to be ring-fenced & channelled into community-focused programmes to address the societal causes of crime.
