It's food and drink for today's #OnlineArtExchange so anyone for a slice of melon overlooking the Mediterranean in 'Still Life at Basiluzzo' by Alberto Morrocco?

The close ups allow you to see the layers of information, with not only time, but months of the year, start signs and places around the world where it's noon at whatever time it was here in Scotland in the 1820s- a real intellectual challenge as well as an artistic one.

Today we're celebrating the return of our newly conserved sundial with a before and after images so you can see the real transformation. The exhibition about its maker, Robert Palmer, A Lad o' Pairts opens today and will be on display in the museum till May 2025.

We're excited by the return of our newly conserved sundial which went away in many pieces and has returned clean, whole and looking fabulous thanks to @gracielaains. Just in time for our next exhibition about its maker, Robert Palmer opening soon!

Cornwall is a tricky #OnlineArtExchange theme for us however the Barns-Graham Trust gifted us 4 works by Wilhelmina Barns-Graham. Although Scottish, Barns-Graham spent much of her life in St Ives after 1940. This work is called Vision in Time I.

Paisley shawls from the 1700s &1800s are part of a new exhibition from Heriot-Watt and The Great Tapestry of Scotland in #Galashiels. 🧵

The event runs from 26 March to 12 July 2024.

Managing #Digital content whether born digital or digitised has become a significant part of archivists' work over the last few years. This iconic image of a golfer wearing tweed is part of the University collections which have been digitised.

#Volunteers are a valuable asset to archivist's work and can contribute specific skills and knowledge. The 2022 Bernat Klein exhibition was put together with the help of volunteers from Edinburgh Lace Club.

It's #ScottishArchivesDay so we're going to share a few snippets from our Archives including this swatch of tartan, one of the oldest we have and is a classic example of mid 18th century tartan used in plaids (large shawls). The dyes are cochineal and indigo.

Our catalogue has no mention of magic- how strange! However this mysterious painting, Prelude to the Innocent Eye by Henry Rogers certainly has something magical going on. It's currently on display in our library if anyone wants to explore the magic further! #OnlineArtExchange

The theme of today's #OnlineArtExchange is #travel. What better way to spend a summer's day than to sit and watch others travel by the Crinan Canal with its constant motion of boats and locks? This painting by Wm Ferguson has transported me there.
