Well, you’ve just accidentally demonstrated why these two things aren’t comparable. The Wright brothers were demonstrating flight using aerodynamic lift, the wings generating the lift. The aircraft used its engine to move forward and its aerodynamics to keep it in the air. There was no fundamental physical limitation to that first 12-second flight. They went on to make three more, progressively longer flights that same day. The Roadster is completely different because it isn’t using aerodynamic lift at all. The thrusters are literally holding the car in the air, an incredibly inefficient way of overcoming gravity on a temporary basis (which is why over 80% of a space shuttle's launch mass is fuel). The mix of this ineffeciency and physics dictates it can only carry so much compressed air, so once that propellant is gone, the car comes back down. Thanks for providing the perfect example of why the Wright brothers comparison doesn’t work here.
