Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of 17 pilgrims from St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church, Mikindani Parish, in a road accident at Salama while travelling to the National Shrine in Subukia for the National Prayer Day.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the families, friends, parishioners and the entire Catholic community who are mourning this painful loss.

We stand with them in this difficult moment and pray that God grants them strength, comfort and peace.

We also pray for the swift recovery of those injured in the accident. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.

The Law Society of Kenya Council visited the Kenyatta National Hospital to check on the status of victims of police brutality who have been taken to the facility amidst the anti Finance Bill protests. We were hosted by the Senior Director for clinical services and the Director of Nursing Services who briefed us on the statistics of patients the hospital has handled, the nature of injuries and treatment, and steps being undertaken by the hospital to provide adequate care to all victims.

We emphasised the need for cooperation between the Hospital's management, IPOA and the LSK to conduct substantive investigations into the violence meted by police leading to the injuries. We had an opportunity to see and converse with some of the patients, a fair number of whom noted that they were not actively involved in protests but were nonetheless targeted, attacked and left severely injured by the police. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensure justice is found for all victims of police misconduct.
