In May 2026, Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo withdrew criminal charges against his ex-wife, Sonja Madzikanda, and her mother, Tabitha Madzikanda.
The Arrest: Sonja Madzikanda spent four nights in custody, while her 63-year-old mother, Tabitha Madzikanda, spent three to four nights in detention. The two faced allegations related to cyberbullying, harassment, and the circulation of images and videos involving Chivayo and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Why Chivayo Withdrew the Charges: Chivayo said he forgave the two and decided to drop the charges after his children repeatedly called him asking for their mother. He emphasized that the well-being of his children was his top priority.
However, Chivayo said he had no regrets about the initial arrests, arguing that he believed his mother-in-law deserved a brief jail ordeal because of what he described as disrespect toward a head of state.

“Edwin Sifuna alikua anatuambia kwa kiburi na madharau ati ako na values lakini yeye ndio extortionist mkubwa.” — Ruto
This Chivayo guy kicked the famous bucket and it's like there are celebrations in Harare, Lagos, Accra, Kinshasa, Cape Town, Kampala, Nairobi, Dar-es-Salaam, Khartoum, Dakar, and even peace-lovers in Mogadishu. He must have been a horrible person.

Remains of Wednesday's helicopter crash victims, including Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke, three other passengers and two pilots, moved from the crash site to Marondera Hospital for death certification, before being transferred to Harare.
The proof that the so-called Kenyan mainstream media are part of a criminal syndicate is the glaring fact that none of them has mentioned that this fat Zimbabwean, Chivayo, was a CONVICTED criminal who spent 3 years in a maximum prison for FRAUD and MONEY LAUNDERING and was a PROMINENT and SERIAL SMUGGLER and a member of an international criminal syndicate.
They refer to him as a “tycoon”, a “businessman” and a “philanthropist”, but everyone knows that he was just a celebrated criminal—like all the others.
After the Adani JKIA deal failed, Ruto's friend Wickwell Chivayo secured a stake in the KSh 379 billion JKIA expansion deal.
Wickwell Chivayo registered a company in Kenya called IMC Construction Kenya.
The company was brought into the project as a joint-venture partner by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), alongside its subsidiary, China Road and Bridge Corporation.
Kasongo was going to benefit from the JKIA deal through Chivayo.
