Is it because I changed my pfp to a pretty wasian girl? I had a Rei from IVE pfp before but that was clearly a photoshoot. This one’s a selfie so maybe people think it’s me. To be clear to all my pfp is Lily from NMIXX. I am a white man.
My rule is that it has to vaguely make sense within English phonotactics. Kolkata makes sense. Myanmar makes sense. Kiyiv makes sense and is pronounceable to English speakers. Türkiye is just not English and doesn’t make sense within English phonotactics.
My lukewarm take on geographical renaming is that you get to dictate what your place is called in English if you use English as an official language. So the Indians get a pass with Kolkata, but none of the Türkiye nonsense.
Living in Japan has in many ways helped me reconcile myself with my own Englishness, and a big part of that was realising that the experience of being bored by England and wishing to flee to foreign shores is itself extremely English.
This is what the Japanese right actually thinks about the foreigners who make the effort to integrate. These people are model immigrants of the kind any country is lucky to have. Actively and happily embracing the culture of their new home.
Japanese people are not excited by Japan the way I am. Because for them Japan is boring and normal. For me it’s a fascinating foreign language and culture.
It’s very funny when people on here hit me with the “you will never be Japanese” as if that’s going to upset me. Much of what I love about living in Japan is very contingent on the fact that I’m not Japanese. If I was Japanese I’d likely want to go elsewhere!!!!
@yonaguni_horse Why does it being on their head make any difference? It’s a worn expression of their faith and they have every right to wear it. Just as Christians in Japan will wear crosses
I think it’s completely fine for a Japanese Prime Minister to not know English. But Takaichi is clearly very insecure about the fact that she doesn’t and ends up acting really weird to compensate.
long term, you'll realise its because the internet inherently saps people's ability to be grounded about everything. the longer they spend on there, the longer they a. lose their actual political convictions and b. devolve into simply attacking people for not being their ideal
In better circumstances, not saddled with the failures of those who came before him, I do believe that Ishiba could have been a truly great prime minister.
