Looks like hard times are gonna be with us for a while. My unsolicited advice, especially to parents; do not take a loan or sell your land, house or assets to pay school fees. (Parents can do mindless things when it comes to their children — I am one of them.)

If you can’t afford school fees, it’s okay to move children from private to government schools. They will still learn. Many successful people went to government schools, so did many of us , and we turned out okay. Even the most stubborn of children are exceptionally understanding and soft towards their parents when times are hard.

For some households, if it means moving to a ‘compound’ or a smaller house; do it. A roof is a roof. Same for transport; it’s fine to downgrade. For my part, I use a beaten down MiniCooper with a driver’s window that doesn’t open (and that’s fine).

Do not be swayed by social media success, often times, it’s keeping up appearances (or you don’t know the source of school fees, for some, companies pay).
