KyivPride’s 10th Equality March drew around 5,000 people in central Kyiv on June 21, organizers said. The two-hour march covered 1.2 kilometers and called for equal rights and recognition of LGBTQ+ families in Ukraine.
Around 80 foreign diplomats and representatives of international institutions joined the march, including officials from the embassies of Sweden, Canada, Germany, Australia, Italy, Norway, Belgium, the U.K., Finland, Spain, Denmark and France, as well as the EU, Council of Europe, World Bank and the United Nations.
Organizers said this year’s key demand was legal recognition for LGBTQ+ families, an issue they say has become especially urgent during Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Pride is a beautiful celebration for some, but for many others, it is still a daily fight for basic safety and dignity. 🌈
Being yourself should never come at the cost of your freedom or your life. Everyone deserves a place to live without fear
