When I said a lot of the houses are over priced, you people started attacking me.
How can a 500m house be leaking from the roof and foundation?
Does that even make any sense?
This is why I keep saying that Lagos' flooding problem is not just about people dumping trash into drainages. Yes, indiscriminate waste disposal is a major issue, but there are also serious questions about the obstacles preventing drainage enforcement and clearance.
If a real estate company can reportedly mobilise nearly 20 uniformed personnel to stop government officials from clearing blocked drainages, then who is really in charge? Are some people or organisations above the law?
Thankfully, normalcy was restored after the intervention of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, who ordered the personnel to withdraw. But the incident raises important questions about accountability, respect for public institutions, and whether enough is being done to tackle the root causes of flooding.
Lagos deserves better. The law must apply equally to everyone. We still have a long way to go.
