URGENT APPEAL & INTERVENTION
Mumbai to Thane is the original line of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway (GIPR), the first commercial passenger stretch in the country.
A part of the old Sion station (midway between Mumbai-Thane) with GIPR brackets is currently being dismantled for line expansion.
An appeal to save some of the old brackets for the local heritage gallery or the national musuem..
These relics are the last few central pieces of India's railway history, the first and original line of Indian railways. @RailMinIndia@mumbaiheritage
Joy Milne, a retired nurse from Scotland, first noticed a distinct, subtle "musky" smell on her husband, Les, about 10 to 12 years before he was officially diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1994. At the time, she didn't connect the odor to any medical condition, assuming it was just sweat or a change in his body chemistry.
It wasn't until years later, when attending a Parkinson's support group with Les, that Joy realized every person in the room shared that exact same distinct scent, prompting her to believe that Parkinson's disease carried a unique olfactory signature.
Intrigued by her claim, researchers at the University of Edinburgh, led by Dr. Tilo Kunath, decided to test Joy's ability through a double-blind study. Joy was given 12 plain T-shirts, six worn by confirmed Parkinson's patients and six worn by healthy control subjects. Joy correctly identified all six Parkinson's patients, but she also insisted that one of the control group members had the disease.
Although marked as an error initially, the story took an incredible turn eight months later when that specific control subject was officially diagnosed with Parkinson's, revealing Joy had a 100% accuracy rate and had detected the disease long before clinical symptoms appeared.
Joy's extraordinary olfactory sensitivity, a condition known as hyperosmia, led scientists to investigate what compounds she was actually smelling. Researchers discovered that the distinct odor stems from volatile chemical changes in sebum, the oily substance secreted by the skin, which is altered by Parkinson's disease.
Joy’s gift has since paved the way for scientists to develop early diagnostic tools, including skin swabs and mass spectrometry tests, aimed at identifying Parkinson’s years before motor symptoms begin.
Joy Milne’s incredible olfactory ability extends far beyond Parkinson's disease and it comes at a significant personal cost. Joy is an extreme "super-smeller" due to hyperosmia. Researchers have traveled with her internationally to test her ability to detect other conditions; she has helped scientists conduct preliminary odor research on tuberculosis (TB) in Tanzania, as well as cancer and Alzheimer's disease in the U.S.
While her nose is a gift to medical science, Joy has often described her heightened sense of smell as an everyday burden. Everyday environments can be overwhelmingly painful for her. She has to strategically plan her routine, often doing grocery shopping very early in the morning or late at night to avoid the heavy perfumes worn by shoppers, and actively avoiding the household chemical and detergent aisles in supermarkets entirely because the artificial fragrances are so agonizingly intense.

Some cricketers get remembered for their worst evening forever. Doesn't matter how many good mornings follow after. KL Rahul knows that curse better than most.
Every failure gets replayed, every hundred gets a but attached to it & somewhere in all that noise,he just kept turning up & batting.
Since 2024 Border Gavaskar Trophy, Rahul has played 15 Tests & scored 1225 runs at 51 average. Solid numbers on paper. Except runs were never really the point of what he has been doing.
He has faced 2473 balls in that time, more than any opener in world cricket during the same period. Not by a small margin either. Nobody else has even reached 2000, only 1 opener has crossed 1600. His average balls per innings sits at 91.59, more than England's two openers combined manage between them for same stretch.
And he did this while India were falling apart around him a little. India lost Rohit Sharma as an opener in this window, lost Virat Kohli at 4, spent months fumbling around for a number 3. Somebody had to just stand there & take the shine off new ball while everything else around him kept shifting.
In his last 20 innings he has fallen for single digits only 4 times& never twice in a row.
For years white ball cricket couldn't decide what to do with him, dropped him, recalled him, dropped him again. Red ball cricket, it turns out, was patiently waiting for exactly this version of Rahul all along.

There is no one Dosa... or one Misal... or one ___ (any popular Indian dish) 😊
Recipes, ingredients, prep styles change across regions, cities... sometimes across restaurants in the same neighborhood.
So statements like 'XYZ Dosa is the best' ...or 'ABC Misal is the most authentic' are a bit meaningless 🤣
Comparing a Kolhapuri Misal to a Nashik Misal ...or a Davangere Dosa to one further south - are apples to oranges comparisons, IMO.
Enjoy all of them! Stop comparing 🙂

"Jnaneswari Express Accident" Most controversial accident in Indian Railways history,
On May 28, 2010 around 1AM in night, the Shalimar - Kurla LTT Jnaneswari Express departed Kharagpur junction unaware about what was about to come ahead, 14kms from Kharagpur at Khemasuli station everything was going smooth & the train was rolling at MPS which continued for next 5kms, the next station Sardiha was just 3kms away, time on the clock was around 1:30AM and suddenly locopilots felt a huge jerk, The Jnaneswari Express derailed, before anyone could understand anything a freight train coming from opposite direction rammed into derailed coaches of Jnaneswari Express killing almost 148 and 180 injured,
Post this accident train services were halted for almost 1 year on this section in the night time for safety purposes,
To this date it's unclear who was behind this accident but there are 2 different theories on who was responsible for it,
1: The maoist - naxalites were blamed for this accident where it was claimed that they removed 46cm on the tracks which caused this accident but no naxalites claimed responsibility for this rather they offered to gaurd the tracks instead
2: The second angle is little political where two major parties of West Bengal (TMC & CPI(M)) blamed each other and called it a planned sabotage, many believed that it was a planned accident by the then Railway minister "Mamata Banerjee" to use it against the ruling party for upcoming state elections and gain power which eventually happened, while others believed it was planned by the then ruling party of West Bengal CPI(M)
What's the truth? Who was responsible for this accident we still don't know, The case is still pending in courts and the those 148 innocent souls who lost their life are still waiting for justice,
The damaged rolling stock of both Jananeswari Express & Freight are still present at the accident site waiting for court verdict and their fate to be decided,
Will we ever have a verdict? No one knows and that's why it's most controversial accident in the Indian Railways history
