They also emphasized that the estate is closely monitoring the situation and greatly appreciates all the support from fans in defending Michael, as well as the affection shown and the actions many are taking, including canceling streaming subscriptions as a form of protest against the documentary.

We received emails from fans like you expressing disappointment with the Netflix documentary "Michael Jackson: The Verdict".

We sympathize with your feelings. Unfortunately, other than denying requests for the use of footage, images, music or other IP owned by the Estate, the Estate has no legal grounds to stop any documentary whether it tells truths or lies since there is no protection against defamation for the deceased.

We certainly appreciate seeing many fans on social media mentioning that they are canceling their Netflix subscriptions due to frustration with this documentary.

Meanwhile we continue to see a tremendous positive response from both existing and new fans regarding the Michael biopic all across the web and social media. It's truly been overwhelming. We think this response far outweighs the negativity brought forth by the Netflix documentary and encourage all fans to continue to celebrate the positivity from the biopic.
