@fla_montano I don't understand what it means to merge out affiliations (I don't know the context for that comment). I suggest to help your mentee feel better: play with ChatGPT and ask it to rewrite your sentences (maybe first without gerunds). I've just tried it and its amazing.

@fla_montano In your rebuttal letter, treat the comments about English grammar and syntax as a single criticism. What the editor (and reviewers who have criticisms of the science) will look for is your responses to those.

@fla_montano What recommendations did the editor make? As an editor, I would read those comments as saying that the substance of the manuscript is sound, but there are some minor issues of presentation that should be addressed (although I don't understand why gerunds would be an issue).
