Brigadier Gen. Charles Young was the 1st African American to reach the rank of Colonel in the US Army. At the time of his death in 1922, he was the highest-ranking African American officer in the Army. His legacy lives on today and you can learn more about him at @CharlesYoungNPS

Col. Charles Young lived a remarkable life. Born in Kentucky to enslaved parents in 1864, he graduated from West Point and became the highest-ranking Black officer in the military. I’m proud to have supported his posthumous promotion to Brigadier General in honor of his service.
