Gov. JB Pritzker signed 59 bills today, including @rep_nabeelasyed’s HB 3564, which crack downs on landlord “junk fees.” The measure requires upfront disclosure of non-optional fees and generally caps application and background check fees at $50.
Congratulations, @NabeelaforIL!! In the IL House, Nabeela has passed bills to cap prescription drug costs, expand breast cancer screening, and make voting more accessible to young people – proving that young leaders get it done. Let’s go flip IL-SD-26!
We’re thrilled to endorse @NabeelaforIL for election to the IL State Senate D-26! Since making history as one of the youngest members elected to the Illinois legislature, she has been a dedicated champion for affordable healthcare, strong public schools, and economic opportunity.
When I first ran for office at 22, David was one of the few who believed we could flip this district, not just to win a seat, but to deliver real results.
I’m really proud to have his support and the endorsement of @Leaderswedeserv!
.@NabeelaforIL was one of the first young people I was inspired to support before @LeadersWeDeserv
began. In just 2 years, she's passed 21 bills which have capped prescription drug costs, expanded breast cancer screening, secured paid leave for organ donors, and made voting more accessible to young people. Proud to endorse her!
I also spoke with a man named Joel who said that if more people had honest conversations like we did, we could fix much of what is wrong in our country. And I spoke with someone who typically doesn’t vote, but said he refuses to sit out this upcoming election.
Today, door after door, I had wonderful conversations with community members in Algonquin.
In every conversation, I felt like we all left learning something new. I feel really lucky to have these conversations and grateful to everyone who takes the time to talk with me.
The federal government’s decision not to use emergency SNAP funds during the shutdown will take away food assistance from over 7,000 of our neighbors in the 51st District and millions across the country starting November 1st.
We just submitted 5,000 signatures to get my name on the ballot!
We had to collect a minimum of 1,000 signatures for State Senate and our incredible team went above and beyond, collecting five times that amount!
Even when things feel tense or uncertain, I’m heartened by the sense of community at the doors especially when someone is open to conversation, even if we don’t agree. There’s real value in listening and speaking with kindness & I’m grateful to everyone who’s willing to do that.
This past month, the conversations at the doors have been heavier. I’m grateful to everyone who shares their concerns about politics and government. I’m especially thankful for moments like one with Lucia, where we connected over our upbringings and cultural backgrounds.
I presented HB2446 in committee back in March of 2023 when I was first elected and later, it passed in an elections omnibus package.
Proud that here in Illinois we recognize how vital it is to empower the next generation of voters to engage in the democratic process.
I couldn’t let National Voter Registration Day pass without reflecting on one of the bills I’m most proud of - HB2446.
The bill allows for 16 year olds in Illinois to preregister to vote.
Just one year after the bill passed, 50,000 teens were already pre-registered to vote.
I’m really grateful for everyone who takes the time to talk and share their perspective at the doors.
These conversations help me be a better legislator, and I’m fortunate that so many people across the district are willing to connect.
I met Dr. Patel in South Barrington at the doors. I helped him saw a broken tree branch while he shared his insights on health care in America and what we need to do to better support patients and physicians.
Want to join in on the fun? Come to our petition canvass kickoff this Saturday, August 16 at 10am! Email [email protected] to RSVP.
From Palatine to Volo and everywhere in between, I’ll be out there knocking. Hope to catch you at the doors soon!
Petition season is off to a great start 💙 I've loved having meaningful convos across the 26th District.
From Ed, who was excited to hear I'm running, to a young voter who didn’t agree with everything but still found common ground, these chats have been energizing.
Yesterday, our team mostly unplugged from our devices (we had to snap a few pics, these moments were too cute to miss!) & plugged into our community at Lake Zurich's annual Unplugged Fest. We even had the honor of meeting some local royalty!👑
Until next year! 📵
