پھر وقت بدلا تو معلوم ہوا کہ یہ سول سپریمیسی کے کانگڑی پہلوان دراصل دو خاندانوں کے دروازوں پر کھڑے وہ حفاظتی الارم تھے جنہیں خطرہ صرف اس وقت محسوس ہوتا تھا جب دروازہ کسی اور کے لیے کھلنے لگتا تھا۔
حکمران خاندان کی جگہ عمران خان آیا تو کانگڑی پہلوانوں کی سول سپریمیسی کی قلعی کچھ یوں کھلی جیسے ٹانگوں سے معذور فقیر کے کشکول سے کوئی سکہ چرا کر بھاگے اور عین اسی لمحے فقیر کی ٹوٹی ہوئی ٹانگیں معجزانہ طور پر درست ہو جائیں😭

انہیں آج بھی غم ہے کہ جس بھٹی میں کود کر کندن ہونے کی امید وہ اپنے قائدِ انقلاب اور سلطان معظم سے لگائے بیٹھے تھے اس آگ میں تو کوئی اور سر پھرا بے خوف کود گیا ہے
چاہیے تو یہ تھا کہ یہ لوگ اس سرپھرے کی حمایت کرتے۔ کیونکہ وہ تو عین اسی نظریے کی طرف آ نکلا تھا جسے یہ لوگ اپنا نظریہ قرار دیتے تھے۔
اس چیز نےثابت کیا کہ ان کاکوئی نظریہ نہیں تھا۔ ان کی جنگ اقتدارپر قائد انقلاب کی اجارہ داری قائم رکھنے کی جنگ تھی ۔
انہیں دکھ ہے کہ جو کام قائد نہ کر سکے وہ سیاست سے نابلد، درباریوں سے بے نیاز اور آزربائجان کی ٹوکریاں بانٹنے سے انکاری شخص نے آخر کیسے کر لیا؟
یہی وہ دکھ ہے جو آج تک ان کے سینے میں کانٹے کی طرح چبھا ہوا ہے۔
اب ان کا سارا فکری سرمایہ اسی ایک امید پر کھڑا ہے کہ عمران خان کوئی ڈیل بنالے جسے پکڑ کر ہم اپنے برسوں کے فکری دیوالیے پن پر پردہ ڈال سکیں اور اپنے ناقدین کو کہہ سکیں

Saeed Anwar scored a Test hundred in every country he ever played in. Six in six. And his last Test came the month his daughter died.

Everybody knows the ODI Saeed Anwar. The 194 at Chennai, the twenty hundreds, the world record that stood thirteen years. The Test career sits almost unexamined next to it, and it deserves better, because on the evidence he is the finest Test opener Pakistan has produced, with only Hanif Mohammad to argue the point.

Start with the number that should be famous. Anwar scored Test centuries in every single country he played in, six hundreds across six countries, leaving out only Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. The only opener who comes close is Gary Kirsten, with five hundreds in the five countries he played in. And among all Asian batsmen of that decade, only Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar also managed Test hundreds in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia.

He averaged 40-plus in every major nation except South Africa, where it was 35. He holds the highest away average of any opener across the entire decade. And most tellingly, he averaged slightly more away, 45.66, than he did at home, 45.36. For a subcontinental opener in the 1990s, that is close to unthinkable.

Then look at when the runs came. Four of his eleven hundreds arrived in the third innings, at Brisbane, Kolkata, Durban and Colombo, and three of them with Pakistan either behind on first innings or scrapping to extend a thin lead.

So why has none of this stuck? Partly because of the room he was standing in. Pakistan in the nineties was full of outsize characters, and Anwar was not one. He was quieter, more contemplative, genuinely lo-fi alongside the Ws, Mushy, Moin, Inzy, Sohail, Shaiby, Saqi, Afridi and Malik. His 188 not out at Eden Gardens should be an all-time innings, and instead it competes for memory with two Shoaib Akhtar deliveries, the Tendulkar run-out, Moin Khan's rearguard and Javagal Srinath's 13 wickets.

And partly because it ended too soon. Injuries dogged him throughout, and in August 2001 his daughter died. His final Test was on 31 August 2001. He was 32. He came back for white-ball cricket and still made a hundred against India at the 2003 World Cup, but 55 Tests was where the number stopped.

Fifty-five Tests, 4,052 runs, eleven hundreds, six countries, and a square drive that people who saw it still describe twenty-five years later.

Saeed Anwar made a golden duck as Pakistan collapsed to 26 for 6 and were bowled out for 185 at Eden Gardens. In the second innings he made 188 not out, carried his bat, and out-scored his entire team's first innings on his own. He held the world record for the highest ODI score for thirteen years, and yet this, a Test innings in Kolkata, might be the best thing he ever did. Happy birthday to one of the most elegant openers Pakistan has produced.

So how bad was the situation, really? Pakistan were 26 for 6 on the opening morning of that 1998-99 Asian Test Championship match, with Anwar back in the pavilion for a first-ball duck. Moin Khan dragged them to 185 with a 70. And at the other end, Javagal Srinath was in the middle of the greatest bowling performance ever produced by a man on the losing side, 8 for 86 in one innings and 13 for 132 across the match.

Then Anwar walked back out. In front of a crowd of over 100,000 who had watched him fail once already and wanted nothing more than to watch it again, he made 188 not out. He never got out. He carried his bat through the innings, becoming only the third Pakistani in history to do it, after Nazar Mohammad and his son Mudassar Nazar. Now the freakish part is the arithmetic: 188 not out is 60% of Pakistan's total of 316, and it is more than the entire team had scored in the first innings when he made nothing at all. Pakistan won by 46 runs, and it stood as the highest Test score by a Pakistani on Indian soil until Younis Khan made 267 six years later.

But I keep coming back to the fact that he did this to the best attacks going, repeatedly. Throughout the 1990s Asian batters crumbled against Australia's pace and bounce. Anwar dominated them, 886 runs across 8 Tests at 59.06, three centuries and five fifties, which is the highest Test average any Pakistani has managed against Australia. He was not surviving those attacks. He was dictating to them, pulling and hooking the fastest bowlers of the era and turning their primary weapon into a scoring zone.

ٹریک ایک سڑک کو چیر کر گزرتا ہے ۔ ابھی کراسنگ سے دوچار قدم پیچھے ہوں گا کہ دائیں طرف ایک گاڑی رک گئی۔ نا کوئی اشارہ ، نا کوئی پولیس والا۔ مسکراتے ہوئے ڈرائیور کی طرف ہاتھ ہلایا۔ دھیمی سی مسکراہٹ جواب میں ملی۔ دھوپ نکل رہی تھی۔دور گرتی سنہری روشنی سے گھاس چمک رہا تھا۔ آسمان اتنا نیلا اتنا صاف کہ جیسے ابھی کسی نے دھویا ہو۔ چلتے چلتے ایک کافی شاپ کے اندر داخل ہوا۔ اندر شاید مشینوں کی گرمی یا ہیٹ آن مزہ آگیا۔

ابھی ایک کافی لیکر ایک کونے میں بیٹھا ہوں۔ فون جیب سے نکالا ہے اور اپنی دنیا ، سوری آپ کی دنیا میں واپس آگیا ہوں۔ مرگیا ، ڈوب گیا ، لٹ گیا ، پیٹا گیا ، گھسیٹا گیا، دھماکہ ، بم ، ��لی ہوئی گاڑیاں ، کسی اداکار اور اداکارہ کی جپھی پر چیختے ہوئے لوگ ، زخمی چہرے ، جلے ہوئے جسم ، بھوکے چہرے ، لاچارگی اور بے بسی سے اٹی شکلیں ، جھوٹے ، ذلیل ، حرامخور چہرے ۔ دس منٹ کی سکرولنگ نے دل ایسے جکڑ لیا ہے۔ دماغ بند ہورہا ہے۔ گویا کسی منفی چیز نے اپنے حصار میں کرلیا ہو۔ اس سناٹے کو کافی شاپ میں آتی جاتی پرسکون سی ہیلو ہائے کی آوازیں توڑتی جارہی ہیں۔

شاید یہ ہیجان دماغ کو اور نفسیاتی صحت کو چاٹ رہا ہے۔ ہمیں تو صرف فون پر دیکھ دیکھ کر چاٹ رہا ہے۔ جو لوگ دن رات اس اذیت کو بھگتتے ہیں وہ کیا کرتے ہوں گے؟ جو اس آگ کی شدت کو جھیلتے ہیں ، جنکی فکریں انکی کمریں دوہری کررہی ہیں وہ ؟ جن کو کوئی ڈور کوئی سرا دکھائی ہی نہیں دیتا وہ؟ کیا انہیں اندازہ ہے کہ وہ کس جہنم میں ہیں؟ یا پھر انہیں پتہ ہی نہیں کہ نارمل زندگی ، پرسکون زندگی ہوتی کیا ہے؟پھر میں کیا کروں؟ فون جیب میں رکھا کروں؟ کام کروں تو صرف اپنے کام سے متعلق ٹیب کھولا کروں؟ ساتھ ولاگ ، پوڈ کاسٹ ، تبصرے اور تجزیے سنتے رہنے کی بجائے موسیقی سنا کروں؟ واپس لوٹنے کے خواب دیکھنا چھوڑ دوں؟ ہاں ؟ ہیں؟ نہیں ؟ ہوں؟ پتہ نہیں !
