A while back, I met a young man employed as a clinical officer by Kiambu County. He had also managed to open a clinic, and it was doing very well—there was a huge queue every day.
The problem was that he still had to report to his day job. All he had was one hour in the morning and a few hours after 6 p.m. Nonetheless, he managed to see about 30 clients a day at a consultation fee of KSh 600 per person. He also sold medicine and performed procedures here and there.
He told me himself that he would make 200k gross profit on a bad month. I suggested he quit his job and focus on the clinic. “Blasphemy,” he said.
Anyway,a superior with a bad eye noticed his nice lifestyle including a Toyota harrier,he got transferred to a remote health center in Githunguri and had less and less time to visit his clinic. Last I heard, he was still there, and his business had all but shut down.
I go to the EACC page and look at some of the people they take to court, and I wonder: why would you continue working when you have a billion-shilling empire of cash flow? Civil service might be a cult of some kind.
Niliquit 9-5 ilikuwa inanilipa 150k/month.
Imenitake two years for my company kunilipa 67k/month na nafanya kazi from 7AM to 11PM every day, na sometimes unapata uko na employees wanakupea the hardest time ever, na kuwafuta kazi ni even more expensive.
Every month uko na bills za kulipa in the millions, end month kila mtu ako happy isipokuwa wewe juu uko na another 30 days kuraise another million. Na imagine all this trouble ndiyo net salary yako ikuwe 50k
Sometimes doh haitoshi unasema wacha ulipe the employees alafu KRA utawatumia yao by 9th, unajaribu kupata loan bank inakataa juu hauna shamba ya security, inafika 15th unapata weird calls, unashika unapata ni KRA, unawaambia utawalipa next Friday, wanakuambia Friday haiwezekani, labda Thursday. Inabidi uongee with one of your clients akulipe mapema, anakusomea akikuambia biz haifanywi hivo but anaitikia eventually.
Next week inafika unalipa KRA, SHA,NSSF, Housing Levy. Unahave some peace kidogo only to realize that next week ni end month na this time uko na deficit kubwa kushinda last month, and the cycle continues.
Kama uko 9-5 na uko sawa, I can’t advise you to quit. Heri ujaribu entrepreneurship in parallel but usiquit job yako. It feels good when you tell people that you quit your job to pursue your dream but you also need to understand that your dream will take time before it starts paying the bills, and it might also die before you eat a shilling from it.
Ukiwa na Kshs. 250k
The rest tumia kununua scrap metal Kwa watu wa kupima. Buy 1 kg of metal at 50, ukienda light industries Kwa muhindi utauza 1kg at 70.
That's a clean 20 sh per kg
If you sell 100kg per day. Thats 2k per day
In a month huwezi kosa Ksh. 45k
Biashara ni mob huku inje
Yesterday I had an interesting experience
I was trying to file returns for a certain individual
He was confident that he will file nill returns
We logged in on his itax account
Mimi huyo mpaka pale kwa NIL returns
Buana unaclick Iyo kitu ya NIL
KRA wanakwambia you have expenses you need to declare😂😂
Nauliza jamaa yangu. Rada….
Iyo kitu ikanishinda.
I called a contact kwa hapo watu wa Haille Sellasie. Nikamuuliza Kwani hii kitu yenyu haikubali NIL returns juu jomba hapa hana Biashara na Hii kitu inasema ako na Kshs. 185,000 as expenses😂
Jamaa ikaniammbia nimpee few minutes.
After few minutes. Akanicall. Akaniambia niulize jomba kama analipanga school fees xx school😂😂
Jamaaa akaniambia…. eeeeh watoto wanasoma huko. At first he thought he was telling me something interesting 🤨
Then my guy told me…
“Hakuna mtu analipa school fees ya Kshs. 185,000 per year na hana kazi ama biashara. Sasa KRA inataka atueleze mahali Iyo pesa ilitoka”
Wueeeeh sini mbaya..
This is what happened
When Jomba paid school fees. The school recorded it as an income and issued an eTIMS receipt. This automatically updated in KRA backend system that the school has received an income and that’s an expense to whoever who paid it.
So KRA wants to understand huyu mtu hana kazi, hana biashara is surviving how in Nairobi. Kama ni savings as you all would claim.. hii savings unatoa wapi kila mwaka😂
Buana KRA wametunasa.
Alafu they are not doing this to everyone. First they are using Ai to monitor transactions you do everyday using mobile or banking platforms.
So in this case they notice you have payments you are making. They then deploy Ai to analyze your mobile and banking expenses. Jomba Wangu runs a hardware and workshop. Mpesa transactions zake unaona zinagonga upto 500k per month.. Lakini walimshikia pale kwa school fees.
Wale wako na corporate pins ndio wana feel the heat…
Sahii kufanya biashara bila eTIMS ni blunder🥹
Kenya’s imported cars face total taxes of about 70%–100% of their value, pushing prices higher.
Here is the explanation of how the taxes are structured.
Save the thread below:
Wadau you know KRA are saying no company based in Kenya will be allowed to operate without employees and that the employees must remit PAYE. But here is the most interesting part.
If you run your company as a sole shareholder and Director while you don't have any employees on record, they're saying you should indicate that the company has employed you and you set a salary that the company pays you which will be reflecting in your personal account every month.
From this salary you will then be required to be remitting PAYE before or on 9th of every month.
My question then, is it possible to employ yourself in your company that makes millions and give yourself a salary that's below the PAYE threshold/bracket?
Syllabus ya Taxman is running faster that late Kelvin Kiptum.
