INEC says it has removed 1,277,252 invalid voter records from Nigeria’s National Register of Voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commission identified approximately 1.5 million suspicious entries during a technology-assisted screening exercise.
But there is an important distinction:
• About 1.5 million records were flagged for irregularities.
• 1,277,252 were confirmed invalid and removed.
• Approximately 268,000 remained subject to further verification and adjudication.
INEC says the exercise is aimed at sanitising the voter register and strengthening confidence in the electoral process.
The commission has also disclosed that Nigeria’s register contains more than 103 million registered voters.
Cleaning the register is important. But Nigerians will also want transparency about how the irregularities occurred, whether officials were involved, and what safeguards will prevent a repeat.
Can INEC deliver a voter register Nigerians can trust in 2027?

Nigerian gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey has crossed one billion views on YouTube.
His official channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, reportedly recorded more than 1.014 billion views and 5.24 million subscribers as of November 1.
The milestone makes him the first African gospel artist reported to reach one billion views on an official YouTube channel.
A major part of his digital reach has come through the Hallelujah Challenge, the online prayer and worship programme he launched in 2017.
From Nigeria to audiences around the world, this is a remarkable milestone for gospel music and the reach of African worship online.
What do you think has contributed most to the growth of the Hallelujah Challenge?
Another political development ahead of Nigeria's 2027 presidential election.
Olujuwon Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has joined the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement as Special Adviser on Political Affairs.
He has pledged support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election campaign.
His decision is attracting attention because of his father's history as a former Nigerian president and his previous public disagreements with Tinubu's administration.
The question is: how much influence do political family names and personal endorsements have on voters in Nigeria?

Why has Peter Obi not publicly unveiled his 2027 presidential manifesto?
A former spokesperson to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Akande, has questioned the NDC presidential candidate over the absence of a comprehensive manifesto ahead of the January 2027 election.
Speaking on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, he argued that Nigerians should have access to candidates' policy proposals before deciding whom to support.
His argument raises an important question about political accountability.
Should presidential candidates publish detailed manifestos before asking Nigerians for their votes?

"NIGERIA IS RICH IN RESOURCES, BUT OUR LEADERS ARE POOR IN IDEAS."
Those are the words of Oyo State Governor and 2027 APM presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, as he unveiled his Reset Nigeria manifesto in Abuja.
Makinde criticised the gap between government economic reforms and the everyday realities of Nigerians.
He promised to prioritise lower living costs, job creation, electricity, security and stronger public institutions if elected.
He also proposed that presidential candidates should secure at least 51% of votes to win, alongside a transitional government of national unity.
His proposals now add another dimension to the growing debate over Nigeria's political and economic future.
Are these the kind of changes Nigerians want to see from their next president?

Police in Cross River State have arrested a 27-year-old suspect following an attack on the convoy of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in Calabar.
The incident occurred around Watt Market Roundabout on Wednesday as Obi's convoy returned from the palace of the Obong of Calabar.
According to police, suspected attackers armed with machetes and sticks smashed the windscreens of vehicles in the convoy.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Victor Edet Yellow-Duke. Police say investigations are ongoing to identify other people involved.
Obi subsequently proceeded with his scheduled town hall meeting.
As Nigeria moves towards the 2027 elections, political violence and intimidation remain serious concerns.
Whoever is responsible must be identified through a thorough and impartial investigation.

Nigeria's national oil company, NNPC Limited, generated ₦33.15 trillion in revenue between January and September 2026.
That's a 28.3% decline compared with the ₦46.26 trillion recorded during the same period last year.
Despite the decline, NNPC paid ₦11.14 trillion in statutory contributions to the Federation Account.
September offered some improvement: revenue rose to ₦4.61 trillion, while profit after tax increased to ₦509 billion.
But the bigger question remains: what explains the substantial year-on-year revenue decline, and what does it mean for Nigeria's oil earnings and public finances?

An illegal refinery uncovered in Ogun State reportedly had an underground storage tank capable of holding more than 90,000 litres.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) disclosed that the facility, located in Ogere Remo, Ikenne LGA, occupied more than three hectares of land.
A joint inspection with the EFCC reportedly uncovered:
• Underground storage tanks
• Locally fabricated tanks and separation silos
• Underground heating systems
• Cooling facilities and other refining equipment
The NMDPRA says the operation had no regulatory permit.
Importantly, the authority warned that the recovered products cannot yet be classified as diesel until laboratory tests confirm their composition.
The EFCC says investigations are ongoing, including efforts to identify those behind the operation.
How did a facility of this scale allegedly operate without regulatory approval?

Nigerian small businesses could gain access to more long-term financing following a new $50 million agreement between the Bank of Industry and the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation.
The seven-year loan is designed to strengthen BOI’s ability to finance businesses in:
• Manufacturing
• Agriculture
• Renewable energy
• Creative industries
At least 25% of the loan proceeds are earmarked for women-owned or women-led businesses.
The wider IFC investment package could reach $100 million, including a proposed investment in BOI’s domestic bond issuance.
One important clarification: this is not a ₦50 million grant or automatic cash handout to business owners. The funds are intended to expand BOI’s lending capacity, and implementation is still subject to financing conditions.
Will this translate into more accessible loans, better interest rates and less difficulty for small businesses trying to grow?
