The Nakau Programme is a rainforest conservation financing programme supplying carbon offsets from community owned projects in the Pacific Islands.

Live and Learn staff work closely with Drawa community members. Sometimes this means joining rangers and doing hard work out in the forest. Here is a picture of Lanieta, the project manager, trying to keep her shoes dry at the start of a long day in the bush!

The Drawa forests protect more than just #carbon. They also provide valuable resources to communities, like pigs, prawns and fruit. Forest monitoring walks can even double up as hunting trips, so sometimes the rangers will take their canine companions with them!

Drawa project rangers must regularly monitor their forests to ensure that community #carbon stocks are safe and sound. Recently, they have started using the Avenza app, a user friendly but high-tech way of recording their work.

Forests in the Drawa area contain some huge trees. This one took three men to wrap their arms around it! By selling carbon credits, landowners are able to keep these ancient giants in the ground for future generations to marvel at.
