At one point, I run to room because I was overwhelmed, I cried and just remembered how far God has brought me.

I was tired but joyed at the same time seeing runners from over 42 countries mainly African countries.

Just thinking about the fact that WORLD ATHLETICS FEDERATION was live streaming RWENZORI MARATHON, that the quality of runners has gone so high.

The community turn up, the booming business in kasese, people struggled to get food, great problem because it presents opportunities.

The hotel I stayed at, the manager said Kasese is going to run out of food but they stoked for after the marathon too.

EVENTS vs FITs vs TOURISM FAIRS

Serious tourism isn’t driven by individual travelers which are mainly sourced from tourism fairs for Africas tourism case.

Many tourism boards around Africa are starting to understand the value of international events and their impact in the economies.

Traditionally, tourism fairs have been focused on international tourism fairs like World tourism fairs, ITB Berlin and say Indaba tourism fair in Durban every year.

Yes, individual travelers have an impact in the economy but the effort one needs to invest in order to grow the numbers is crazy reason many African countries still remain behind.

NEW YORK and EVENTS

I love following NEW YORK and earnings from events and it’s because I have attended not participated a number of them.

I have flown to New York during low seasons say February and also been there say September when New York is hosting events like UN week, New York tennis open or New York fashion week which happens twice a year.

In February, you will stay in say a 3 star Hilton hotel at usd 250 a night and during September, you will pay usd 300 per night for hostel bed in central New York. You will have to go as far as New Jersey for decent place to stay.

NEW YORK MARATHON

New York full marathon and half marathon leave bring in close to usd 1bn in the economy of New York. Those 2 are beasts of opportunities for New Yorkers.

FASHION WEEKS

New York has 2 annual events for fashion week and both combined fetch New York close to usd 900m and they are beasts of opportunities.

US OPEN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

The US open tennis championship leaves more than usd 1.2bn in earnings both directly and indirect and its spenders come from around the world to spend and tennis is the attraction.

When you hear New York makes over usd 84bn dollars from tourism alone and it’s NOT because of the individual travelers but the massive events that drive their tourism.

Domestic events don’t actually bring in new money to the economy though they help in redistribution of already available resources in the economy.

International events which are hard but possible to build make the most money for the economy. Whoever arrives the country, arrives with money the country didn’t have.

Events directly give almost everyone who has what to offer a chance to sell either a service or product because they bring in both low spenders and high spenders at the same time.

The competition for services and products drive the cost of both and eventually the service or product seller walks to the banks smiling. That’s what is happening in kasese now.

Hon. @norbertmao was so funny in his speech yesterday at the launch of @TheGuluMarathon.

He said for example, people from rich countries give us the poor money and we say God bless you and indeed God blesses!

Added, in life there are 3 types of people 1- those who do things 2 - bystanders and 3- critics. Try not to be one of the last 2

RWENZORI MARATHON 2026

1- World athletics federation is going to live stream @RwenzoriMarathn just like they do with LONDON MARATHON, NEW YORK MARATHON ETC.

Millions will watching Live from across the Globe. The world will watch Uganda!

2- BBC is coming to do a story on @RwenzoriMarathn 2026 for the radio and TV, crew is set to arrive a week before the marathon.

3 - We are finalizing a discussion with 2 Africa broadcasters and hopefully we agree on something this week.

4– @robwalkertv( ROB WALKER) has committed to commentating ( at no cost due to his love for UGANDA) along side MARTIN KEINO and our own @andrewkabuura.

SAD NEWS

5- We had agreed with DREAM TEAM TV( google them) who cover world majors( world top marathons) to do a 26 minutes which was going to reach between 500m to 1bn( not kidding) but how we handle info killed it and hopefully next year God willing.

They have work in the US first week of September and since we have been blacklist, they wouldn’t have the 21days required.

It was going to be Ugandas biggest move in PR. @robwalkertv had helped us achieve that. That’s how much @robwalkertv loves Uganda.
