Katie died a violent death in Illinois.
Killed by an intoxicated illegal immigrant encouraged and protected by sanctuary policies championed by @GovPritzker.

As the son and father in a family of legal immigrants from a third world country, it saddens me that self-serving politicians and activists distorted immigration and sanctuary policies so recklessly that even pro-immigration families like ours are now pleading for common sense, rational guardrails, and laws that actually protect people.

My 20-year-old daughter, Katie, was one of the victims Sanctuary Illinois would rather erase because her story is inconvenient to their political narratives.

These voices overplayed their hand with open-border extremism, no safeguards, and policies they knew would create victims. They accepted the human cost because power and ideology mattered more than the lives destroyed along the way.

Now America is moving toward wanting less immigration altogether because people lost trust.

That did not have to happen. Responsible immigration policy and compassion are not opposites. But leaders chose politics over accountability, and families like mine paid the price.

Katie should still be alive today.

Federal law protects your right to fly the U.S. flag on your property.

HOAs can only make reasonable rules on size/placement. Not ban it.

1. How did an illiterate illegal alien who could not read or write in any language obtain an Illinois driver’s license?
2. What safeguards existed to ensure he actually understood Illinois traffic laws and public-safety requirements?
3. How did Illinois agencies communicate with someone whose only language was K’iche’ and who could not speak English or Spanish?
4. Why did prior police contact, traffic violations, lack of insurance, missed court appearances, and ignored fines trigger no meaningful intervention before two people were killed?
5. What programs, if any, existed to help individuals with no literacy, education, or language skills assimilate safely into Illinois communities?
6. Why was a man using an alias and misrepresenting his nationality allowed to remain in Illinois despite federal authorities already knowing about the fraud?
7. Would even a minimal identity verification or background check have prevented this tragedy?
8. What medical-screening, monitoring, and public-health safeguards existed for individuals entering and residing in Illinois under these policies?
9. Why does Illinois refuse full cooperation with federal authorities even when those authorities possessed warning signs that could have prevented deaths?
10. What oversight, auditing, and identity-verification systems actually existed under Illinois sanctuary policies at the time Katie was killed?
11. Why has neither your office nor the State of Illinois ever reached out to our family to explain how these failures happened or how they will be prevented in the future?

Maybe I mistook your silence on Katie, and the questions I sent your office, as ignoring us.
Perhaps your staff simply decided this was not important enough to bring to your attention, which frankly may be a different conversation about your staff's competence and judgment.
And perhaps during the Congressional oversight hearings, on June 12, 2025, you were simply too overwhelmed defending policies that many Illinois families believe are indefensible.
If this was the cast, that too would be something voters should judge for themselves their Governor. But I have to say, when I testified before Senate subcommittee hearings on Immigration, regarding Katie’s death, I personally did not find telling the truth particularly difficult or taxing. Perhaps that makes things easier.

In any case, since my original letter to your office may have been overlooked, I am posting a summary publicly again so your communications staff, social-media team, and advisors can ensure it reaches you.

I am still willing to have an adult conversation about how a lifelong Illinoisan lost his youngest daughter to a preventable violent death under policies your administration continues to defend.
