AIIMS Delhi has deployed India's first portable bedside MRI, the Hyperfine Swoop System, enabling brain imaging directly in ICUs, emergency departments, and neurosurgical wards without transporting unstable patients.

Operating at 64 millitesla, far weaker than conventional scanners, it poses minimal projectile risk, allowing standard ICU equipment to remain at the bedside. Its permanent magnet design eliminates liquid helium and quench risk, and some patients with metallic implants may also be safely imaged.

Image resolution is lower than conventional MRI, sufficient for bleeds or midline shift but not subtle lesions. AIIMS plans peer-reviewed research to guide broader adoption across India.
