However, subsequent governments for decades have failed to tackle the issue.

The scale of the disruption was what made it different. With most roads there is an alternate route. With the Dartford Crossing there was not, has not been for decades and will not be for years an alternative.

@JeffTaylorUK @BladeoftheS However, protesting had been deemed a legitimate reason to obstruct the highway by the Supreme Court of the UK.

The Highways Agency had to get a High Court Injunction to deal with the protests.

Then the government made new legislation to outlaw it.

@slater09_mike @BladeoftheS However, a lot of the Just Stop Oil protests were “lawful” at the time based on the fact that protesting was deemed a permitted reason to obstruct the Queen’s Highway.

That “loophole” was closed AFTER the protests.
