@harryy6666@PhilipLeworthy@anon_opin I agree Thatcher was polarising.
But I don't think that means she was bad.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think she was great, either.
But she was transformative, pro-european, internationalist... Just a shame she was in thrall to Friedman and sold the council houses.
@Angelina738738@davidvance Let's see how "We've got the strongest economy in the world" works out for you without the rest of us lending trillions to you to prop you up.
@davidvance Where was that rock a month ago?
Perhaps the little man shouldn't have started rolling the rock up the hill if he was too weak to finish the job?
But, as always, he didn't think it through.
Didn't/couldn't... it's all the same
@amandac1928@anon_opin No PM this century has answered the questions in PMQs.
It's been nothing but evasion and showboating since Blair realised how bad he could make Major look on TV every week.
@anon_opin In a grudging way, you have to admire Liz Truss for being able to successfully hide her profound incompetence and separation from reality as well as she did, for as long as she did.
That's also the only thing she was ever good at.
@Becky7pd@SaltyGoat17@EwigkeitC2nd I didn't say it wasn't already a aspect of taxation spend.
I was disputing your characterisation of the process as "I'm lazy..." from the receivers, by presenting it as "I want to help others get back on their feet..." by the contributors.
@Becky7pd@SaltyGoat17@EwigkeitC2nd The wealthy pay a much smaller proportion of their income in taxes.
This is true here as well, but the difference is smaller.
The primary burden of taxation falls on the middle classes, and it shouldn't. The super rich should pay a fairer proportion of their income.
@Becky7pd@SaltyGoat17@EwigkeitC2nd I misunderstood. No, it isn't a reward, or even a good living. It keeps you housed and fed.
There's no incentive to be on benefits, and nor should there be.
Do some abuse the system? Yes. But that's true of all systems.
@Becky7pd@SaltyGoat17@EwigkeitC2nd I'm in the UK.
In the UK and the EU we have a high tax burden, too.
But we get so much more for our money than you do in the US.
The vulnerable are supported, we are never denied healthcare, and we have paid leave for sickness and parenthood.
@highbrow_nobrow She really hasn't.
The whole lot of them are an embarrassing clown show. They're the laughing stock of the world.
You can't be cool when you're the butt of jokes, a punchline, a byword for blunt stupidity.
