📅 2 June 2023
🏢Aerial UTS Function Centre
Wrapping up a great conference #NSWCancerConf22, which was very inclusive, beatufifully covering diverse topics to improve patient outcomes, from pathogenesis and immunotherapy to teleoncology and social justice/equity in cancer care.
Last but not least, Karla Vinasco Pachecho (Poster 8 at #NSWCancerConf22) will tell you how lactic acid producing bacteria, which produce high amounts of the oncometabolite lactate, contribute to stomach cancer. @UNSWBABS
And just a few meters from Isidora Simovic (Poster 54), you will find our talented @SamithaFernand3 (Poster 17) talking about CARD8, an inhibitor of the NLRP3, a big player in stomach inflammation and cancer. #NSWCancerConf22@UNSWBABS
Are u at the #NSWCancerConf22? Come and learn from Isidora Simovic (Poster 54) about autophagy, our favourite intracellular pathway, and its impact on stomach cancer. @UNSWBABS
My PhD student Isidora Simovic was nominated for the Young Investigator Award (YIA) at #AGW2022. I am just so proud of her performance today and how much she has grown as a scientist in just a few years! @GESAorg@UNSWBABS
Really enjoying #GESAresearchworkshop. Great keynote speakers, from an elegant multi-level approach to investigate pancreatic cancer treatment response to the current impact of AI in clinical gastro. @shaleklab@GESAorg David Hewett.
One of my favourite autophagy-related proteins is IRGM, a master regulator at the intersection of autophagy, inflammation and tumorigenesis. Check out our new paper here: https://t.co/HeghFgh0fZ @AutophagyPapers@UNSWBABS
What a Friday! @TheASMR1 NSW Annual Scientific Meeting and @cancerNSW Fellows' Forum happening today! Two very different crowds but both full of great people and scientific ideas.
We are looking to hire a postdoc @UNSWMedicine to work with us on the #microbiome immunoglobulin degradation & microbial transplants. Will have access to cool samples and data from FOCUS & LOTUS #FMT studies in #ulcerativecolitis please RT if relevant. https://t.co/SfGVb49rhr
Embracing 2022 with the best team! @NOKaakoush@LaurenceLuu Isidora Simovic, Karla Vinasco Pachecho, Elsa Kalluzhathil, Sam Fernando, Dimitrije Karadarevic and, last but not least, India Broome Waugh. @UNSWBABS
1/2: When compared to its paralog, ATG16L1, not much is known about ATG16L2. This is despite being a putative modulator of autophagy with reported impact on human disease. Check out our recent article in Autophagy to know more. @LaurenceLuu@NOKaakoush@UNSWBABS@AutophagyPapers
Autophagy plays a dual role in cancer. In this paper, we show how a widely known SNP in ATG16L1 can modulate the risk of severe precancerous lesions and cancer in the stomach via increased ER stress and inflammation.
Welcoming 2022 with our new paper in Gut Microbes. Still so much to understand about autophagy and microbial carcinogenesis. Can' t wait to continue this work in the new year! https://t.co/oL2ZCRJBV9
