Every year on the night before kickoff I sit back and reflect on my dad. A kid from California who only found the Vikings on TV by chance since the Marine base he lived near was packed with Marines from Minnesota. I think about him seeing Fran Tarkenton and falling in love with the game. I think about a few decades later when I picked out a Cris Carter jersey for him as a Christmas gift. I think about his old school Vikings bomber jacket that he let me borrow in high school that I never gave back. I think about taking that jacket with me to US Bank Stadium for my first NFL game in 2019, on the four year anniversary of my dad dying of cancer. I think of Thanksgiving this past year when I got to take my wife to her first game in Minnesota, and a few days later doing our pregnancy announcement on the field during a tour. I think of the Vikings blessing us with tickets to the playoff game and hooking us up with a ton of gifts for us and our baby, Case, who joined us in July.

This year, I think of Case and I think of the ups and downs this team will put him through (should he choose to endure it).

I think of the day he gets to see them win that elusive Super Bowl… and I hope I’m there with him for it.

Here’s to family. Here’s to legacy. Here’s to the Vikings. Here’s to 2023. #SKOL
