This is an essay I wrote last year called “a girl born in 1980”

At the very least. At most, it should be prosecuted at the level of the intent behind the blackmail, which could be much worse--all the way up to treason.

Also the person being blackmailed (if it's a criminal matter) should get a heavily reduced sentence for coming forward.

Blackmail is such a high leverage undertaking since it only caries a four year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine.

If we made it carry the same penalty as the crime that's threatened to be revealed in the blackmail, we would see a dramatic reduction in it's use.

@PeterSchiff Gold backed tokens (GBT) also introduce third party risk. Who owns the gold, pegs it to the token, and defends that peg honestly? Countries around the world have already tried that with fiat.
