@LDSLaw But it's such a well-considered, reasonable statement. I mean, they didn't even say it to me and I still want to change everything about my life and faith so they think I'm a smarty-pants like them!
@iamian When the time came to fulfill that prophecy for Alma's people (who had repented and turned to Him), the Lord didn't remove the bondage or burdens, but He did make them light and easy to bear.
I've often thought that is a good pattern for raising kids.
@iamian I love how the Lord disciplines His people here!
In Mosiah 12:2, Abinadi prophesied what would happen to all the people of King Noah (including those who would eventually follow Alma), which still applied to them even if they repented.
@CKLeviathan@Lets_Talk_HC In 2 Nephi 25:2, he says that he didn't teach his people "concerning the manner of thr Jews." To me it would make sense that after Nephi died, those traditions and cultural tropes would disappear. Thanks for bringing that up!
@FaithLikeAbish2 You probably already know this, but it can help to hear it from someone else:
Don't set out trying to inspire others or expound doctrine in a way they haven't heard before. Just talk about what YOU love and what inspires YOU. The Spirit will testify and touch their hearts.
@FaithLikeAbish2 All you have to do is state the doctrine, tell an endearing story or two about hiw much you love your husband and kids and want to be with them forever, then bear your testimony.
People will LOVE it!
@Latterdaytruth A friend of mine actually used this one:
AoF 13 says we should seek after things that are lovely, good report, and praiseworthy. You look like you meet all those requirements.
He was an awkward guy.
@FaithLikeAbish2 Just remember the formula for a good 5 minute talk:
Scripture or quote from a prophet
Story
Testimony
Need to talk for 10 mins? Just do it twice. I've never failed to get compliments when I follow those steps!
@BradRTorgersen Church and temple attendance are essential, it's true.
But I like to remember that before temples are built, God often uses mountaintops as sacred places. And His Son and gospel are called "living water," bringing to mind water that moves and flows like a river. Stars and...
@iiTzz_Tyrell In the 60's and 70's especially, beards were seen as part of drug culture and the free-love lifestyle. So the Church strongly encouraged men to be clean shaved, particularly if they were in leadership positions. Some places still hold that not-quite-policy.
@pbabinski91 ...regardless of whether the transgressor asks for it. That's why Moroni said that little children are incapable of sinning, and that they are "alive in Christ."
@pbabinski91 ...3. We must have a knowledge of good and evil (which they didn't have)
When a law is broken, but the person breaking it doesn't have one of these things, it's considered a transgression rather than a sin. Christ's Atonement is still required to expunge it, but that happens...
@defense_of_fam 2 Nephi 2:29 says that there is evil inherent in the flesh, and that's what gives Satan power to tempt us. So even if he is bound, I suspect people will still have to strive to put off the natural man.
@BradRTorgersen I've long thought that if I want to make REAL money as an author, I should write a mash up of the two top-selling genres: trashy romance and whodunnit. I even have the concept all ready to go, should I ever decide to sell my soul that way.
Series name: POOLBOY DETECTIVE
