Escape the heatwave with Monet on the Normandy coast ☀️

‘The Beach at Trouville’ is one of several paintings Claude Monet made in the summer of 1870, while he was on honeymoon. The woman wearing white is his new wife, Camille; while the lady in black is believed to be Marie-Anne Guédès, the wife of Monet’s friend, Eugène Boudin. A wonderful painter of the Normandy coast himself, Boudin introduced Monet to painting in this manner, 'en plein air' – a habit that would obsess and inspire him throughout his life. You can even see the sand from the beach in Normandy still embedded in the canvas!
